Sometimes a rain jacket can feel like a cold, clammy layer even if it does keep the rain out. A combination of Gore-Tex PacLite and Mountain Hardwear's Micro Climate Zoning technology makes the Men's Crucial Jacket waterproof, breathable, and warm. Brushed mesh throughout the interior of the Crucial Jacket helps manage your moisture as you climb up steep slopes on alpine routes and adds a bit of warmth and softness to this rain jacket. The Gore-Tex PacLite blocks wind and water without compromising breathability. Articulated sleeves, welded and water-resistant Underarm zips, a roll-away hood with a beefy laminated brim, and fleece inserts add comfort and temperature control to this Mountain Hardwear technical jacket.
Bottom Line: Gun for the summit even when it's cold and wet outside.
More than likely. It is a 50D shell fabric utilizing the Gore Paclite Laminate and will hold up to just about anything you throw its way. Most durable shells are made using between 70D and 40D shell fabric. Hope this helps!
I have used this jacket all over and after maybe 2 years it had a real test. 12 mile hike to the car, 30 MPH wind, along a ridge side ways rain and the high temp for the day was only 33. still water proof. I use if for more then just a raid jacket and has well over 1000 miles of backpacking and other outdoor activities. And with a velcro watch band and a little bit of rolling and folding its slightly smaller then a coke can. It also softens up and becomes more flexable with use.
Only down side is that in high winds the hood is tricky to aadjust when not wearing a helmet.
I got the lava and its nice. For $137.48 with the emailed coupon discount, a light breathable Gore-Tex waterproof, windproof, hooded jacket is hard to beat. The hood is big and fits perfect over my mountain bike helmet. The waterproof pitzip is great for extra ventilation and the chest pocket with the waterproof zipper is great for carrying ipod/mp3, cell phone, wallet and other small objects. Size is as described. Great product and quick delivery from Backcountry.com.
I have a Hardwear jacket some years old - called the "Condit" on the interior label and looks to be the predecessor to your "Crucial". It has a restrainer for the hood tightening cord ripped off - fabric just failed as near as I can tell. Now a liner between the outer shell and the inner mesh - looks like the waterproof layer - is now separating from the other two layers at the shoulder/neckline. Is this lifetime guaranteed?
If you would have gotten it from BC.com they would take it back..you need to contact MH for warranty work.------------------------------Greetings! Just to be clear the "condit" is actually Conduit and is Mountain Hardwear's proprietary waterproof/breathable laminate and not the name of the jacket. Please send it back to Mountain Hardwear for repair. Depending on the jackets age and obvious use would dictate whether it is a warranty issue or a repair. If it is a repair we can fix your jacket for a repair fee and we have a vast fabric library to repair even really old jackets. Hope this info helps!
I;m 6'5" 210lbs and got the large cuz I didn't want it to be very baggy. If your looking to wear lots of layers it would need to be an XL. It's a super sweet jacket though, love it a lot and wear it all the time. Always looking for an excuse.
Thanks for the answer from "What is the difference in the Pinnacle jacket and the Crucial?". It looks from the photos like the Pinnacle is longer as well. Is that true and if so how much so?
I'm 6'3" 175lbs. I got the large and it fits me well, even the sleeves which are often too short for me. The jacket is well-built and 4 weeks after I got it, I am very happy with it. The only thing I don't like about it is the hood. It is enormous and looks quite ridiculous when I wear it on my head.
The Crucial Jacket is made utilizing a laminate from GoreTex called Paclite. It is completely waterproof and breathable. The Pinnacle Jacket is made utilizing a Conduit laminate from Mountain Hardwear and is also completely waterproof and breathable. The Pinnacle is also WELDED together which is really cool and technical... and the Crucial is sewn traditionally. Hope this helps!
im taking this jacket on the A.T. thru hike...but in the mean time i have taken it to isle royale national park and it stood up against some cold rainy, dew riddled mornings...i got XL and it suits me fine if i ware some layers underneath,my only qualm is the hood is a little big.... great product!!
I'm trying to figure out sizing on this bugger. I'm about 5'10", lean build, 170 lbs, and was planning on wearing this as a shell over layers for skiing. My chest seems to be about 42" which is just above a medium. HOw do MHardware jackets run? I don't like the jacket to be too long below the wasit. Could you help a brutha out on this one?
