The early-morning approach is chilly, which is why you’re leaving the bottoms of the Mountain Hardwear Women’s Corsica Convertible Pants zipped on. Once the sun hits the route you’re getting ready to lead, simply zip off the legs and enjoy cool, 10-inch-long shorts. The nylon canvas fabric has a DWR finish for misty days and UPF 50-rated sun protection for clear skis, and a wicking polyester lining takes care of sweat on the inside. Mountain Hardwear reinforced the seat and knees for seasons of climbing, hiking, and backpacking.
Bottom Line: Convertibles that won’t wimp out after the first season. Or the second.
I got these pants over a year ago, and they are my favorite. Love how easy they are to transition from pants to shorts. Super comfortable for an active person like myself and I think they look good on. I got a size 6 short - I'm 5'3" and about 120. Mountain Hardware really got it right with the material; they are a perfect mix of so you're not so hot, but substantial enough to not be too chilly when it's cold out. The price may seem high, but they'll hold up well in the wash and LAST.
Write your question here...I am looking for hiking pants for backpacking. I am petite (5' & 115 lbs). Need pants for late fall hiking. What do you reccomend?
It's always a bit of a crap shoot to order clothes online. I decided these were the pants I wanted, and ordered them despite that the size I really wanted wasn't available (having consulted the size guide). I ended up with pants a size or two too big, but I wear 'em and love 'em anyway. Great as pants and just as great as shorts (I really like the length - not too short, and better, not too long). I don't care for the extra material on the waist liner, and will probably take a pair of scissors to get rid of it. Otherwise, I'm gonna get my sewing machine out and sew on something to take up a bit of room around the waist (since it's one or two sizes too big) and they'll be my favorite pair of pants! Super great for heavy brush and comfy for climbing.
I have 3 prs of Mountain Hardware pants. Even by their own standards, I would consider these low-waisted pants. The pockets sit low on the rear too, but are comfortable.
Meaning do they have a low rise or a high rise? Not sure what you mean. If you are wondering about the rise of the waist then I would say that they are a medium rise. Hope that helps.
Maybe I should know better but did anyone notice that they shrunk quite a bit length-wise after drying in the dryer? I guess I assumed that they are synthetic materials, not cotton, and why not toss them in the dryer. Silly me....
Have no idea of this helps, ie. whether you are short of tall... But I'm 5' 1" and 117 lbs. I purchased the Moondust size 4/Short and they're PERFECT. It's not noted in the description, but they have a slight flair to the bottoms too, which I love. Or you can sinch them a bit using a drawstring at the base of the legs, AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE. So incredibly versatile, these are my FAVORITE hiking pants of all time!
These pants have some great features. I really like the low rise and flat seams so there are no rubbing hot spots under the hip belt of my backpack. I also like that you can get into the pockets without taking the pack off. There was one problem. When I first got them I thought they were going to be I little tight but they stretched out a lot with wear. Since they are low rise I had to constantly pull them up when backing or scrambling over rocks. They need an inner drawstring to tighten them. I really got tired of the ghetto butt.
I love these pants. Ended up going canyoneering for a few days in them, and they held up great (yes, I wore them for several days straight). The only thing I would suggest would be belt loops (they got a little stretched out after a few days).
I wear the Mountain Hardwear Corsica Convertible Pant as shorts most often, but the pants are great for backpacking or for climbing in the spring and fall. The material is very durable, and the rise is a little lower than a normal regular rise. I found these to fit true to size: 5'2", 113 = size 4
