Awesome bivy. Love the full length zipper!! However, this bivy could pack alot smaller and be alot lighter if they didn't put such a massive zipper on the bivy. It's weird to see a heavy duty K-Mart style zipper on super light Conduit fabric. Bad choice for Mountain Hardwear.

Outdoors without a tent

Read all reviews before picking this bag and was happy that I did because it performed just like everyone said it would. Well made and would buy again but as people said it does retain moisture inside because it does not breath. Does protect from outside dampness but remember it it rains and your head is sticking out you will get it wet of course. Great value compared to others.

Poor performance.

By:
April 30, 2009

I have used this bivy several times and it performs much better in certain situations. In the canyonlands it was fine, keeping me dry during a light rain and keeping my sleeping bag out of the sand and dust.
However, during a winter camping trip my down bag was consistently wet with condensation from the inside of the bivy. During this trip I slept in a mega mid, a snow cave and simply under the stars, in each case the bivy did not breathe well enough to keep my sleeping bag dry. I returned it with the intention of finding a better bivy.

Would this bivy (or any bivy for that matter) add any warmth

Would this bivy (or any bivy for that matter) add any warmth to a bag? More specifically during winter camping/backpacking trips? Thanks.

This bivy would add warmth to your bag by not allowing as much heat to escape. As to any hard and fast rule for adjustment to your bag's original temp rating, the data doesn't exist and probably varies considerably depending on conditions inside (perspiration) and outside (humidity, precipitation, etc.) the bag. Some bivies will add warmth, some will not, and it depends on a lot of variables such as fabric, size, and ventilation).

Great bivy

I love this little bivy and it is the quality I expected from Mountain Hardwear. I match this up with my marmot atom bag in my search pack and it gets the job done all year round.
