Mountain Hardwear Cohesion Pant - Men's

The Mountain Hardwear Men's Cohesion Pant keeps your legs warm and dry without adding unnecessary weight to your load. Weighing in at a scant nine ounces, the Cohesion is about as light as outer shell pants come. Mountain Hardwear bonded durable Epic nylon with comfy Epic Stretch panels to create a long-life pant that mirrors your every move. The Cohesion has non-separating side vents that allow air-flow in but still keep the moisture out, keeping you cool and dry during more aggressive activities. The Cohesion's hook-and-loop ankle closures seal out the snow without packing your gaiters.

Bottom Line: The Mountain Hardwear Men's Cohesion Pant is ideal for high-paced, light-packing backcountry travel.

Not wilderness worthy

By:
August 18, 2009

Got both wet and torn within a couple of hours of use on a wilderness trail. The day of the tear, I didn't even have to climb over a downed tree; I just discovered at the end of the day that the leg had ripped several inches. This pant has several nice features though for the VERY careful user: easy on, easy off (even over boots); I found the material to be quiet in use; and, dries very quickly when worn (body heat will dry out the main parts in about half an hour). However, will not stand up to wet bushes, downpours, and contact with natural objects on the trail like stones, branches, and downed trees. Get it for light day hikes, when the stakes are not high.

How are the Cohesion at keeping out rain, snow, dirt around the ankles? I am looking at these pants and the Mountain Hardwear Epic Pants. The Epics have elastic around the ankle, these don't. I would be using these as year round pants - rain pants and winter hiking/snowshoeing.

Functional but Noisy

By:
April 21, 2008

These pants go on and off fast. They also work well to block wind, rain and snow. My only criticism is that they are noisy to walk around in. That is not much of an issue when it is blowing at 90+ over some pass and you want the extra protection.

How does the sizing run on this pant... I usually wear about a 35-36in waist, and a 34in inseam? I am 6' - 205lbs, and would be wearing a layer underneath. Does anyone know if a large is snug - or if an x-large is too loose? I appreciate the help!

Awesome pants

By:
December 22, 2008

I wore these pants for three months on a NOLS trip to patagonia. they did not once soak through and were very durable. They are very basic pants with no pockets but they get the job done and keep you dry.

No. This is a shell pant made with Conduit DT (our waterproof and breathable membrane) Think of them as a rain pant or simple shell pant that could be used year round. Hope this helps.

Great Rain Protection

By:
September 8, 2008

I wore these on a 3 night backpacking trip where it rained every day/night. I stayed completely dry "bushwhacking" through a soaking wet forest in decent rain. The full-length zippers are a must in my opinion...it's nice to take these on/off without having to take your boots off. The noise didn't bother me at all. These pants do exactly what they say and hold up well to the elements.

It means that pants don't seperate at the waist. This allows for a good waist tightening system. I own these pants and there is no mesh behind the zips

Not bad at all ..

By:
July 22, 2009

For a moderately price pair of hard-shell pants, these aren't bad at all. I'm 5'6" and got a size Small .. they fit a tiny tad loose, but that was fine.

First - the downside I found was that the zipper snags the fabric a bit. I don't know if I can fault it too much as I'm really rough in storing it. Still, for a brand like Mountain Hardware, I'd expect to be able to pull on the zipper without ever snagging. Nothing to raise a hair over.

The upside .. this was waterproof and durable. I glacaded down 2000' or Rainier wearing these (along with other rough housing) .. and it never failed. So .. take the good with the bad. They do what they say.

Here is a video of my Rainier experience .. the Glacading is at the end:
