Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Softshell Jacket - Men's

The Mountain Hardwear Men’s Chockstone Softshell Jacket features an ultralight feel and serious breathability to make it the go-to choice on highly aerobic days. A DWR coating adds an extra helping of weather resistance when you get caught without a hardshell. Mountain Hardwear designed this as a stand-alone piece for mellow conditions with the versatility to become a mid-layer in nasty weather.

Bottom Line: When in doubt, move faster.

Great cut for tall/slim people

By:
April 14, 2009

I am 6'3" 185lbs, with a really long torso, and the large model is one of the best fitting jackets that I've ever owned. I bought a black model originally and recently ordered a Titanium colored backup from backcountry.com. While the fit is still great, the titanium model uses darker stitching than the body fabric which creates quite a bit of contrast and takes away from the clean lines of the jacket. I recommend sticking with a darker model. Otherwise, the jacket is great! It's light, packs small and sheds water well. Highly recommended if you need a long-fitting jacket.

The fit is pretty slim, and unusually long, which is good if you are a tall, skinny type. I noticed that while the chest fit of the small and medium size was comparable, the sleeves and overall length of the small were too short.

So and So So and So from Wherever Wherever

The jacket is ok, not really what I expected, but a good softshell nonetheless. The hood bunches up at the crown giving off a Beldar Conehead kinda look. Good quality as to be expected from MH but sorta like frozen food, looks great from the aisle, but when all is said and done, it's missing something.

Hi Nicolas,

The material certainly is a softshell. It's a lightweight softshell meant to protect you from light rain and moderate winds. Since there is no liner in the jacket the material will be very stretchy. I quite like Mountain Hardwear's softshell fabric and think you'll be quite happy with this jacket.

how many pockets does this jacket actually have since description says only 1 pocket?--pic looks like there is 1 chest zip pocket and 2 zip hand pockets plus a lrg. pocket in the back? can someone please clarify and is this the same jacket for sale in the outlet...is the titanium color like a light black color?

Al. There is one chest pocket on the left and two hand pockets lower on the jacket. So, 3 in total. There is NOT a large pocket in the back As for the Outlet versus the main Backcountry site... often times they will be selling colors from previous seasons versus in-season colors. Titanium is light gray. Hope this helps!

Mountain Hardwear Men's Chockstone Jacket

By:
July 22, 2009

I purchased the titanium color at BC.com. Typical MH fit, slim and tall, feels good on. I have the large, fits nice.. I'm 5'10" 190. For uses, the MH website lists climbing/athletic, which it could be, with a few minor changes. The pockets are set low, thus bunching up under a pack/harness. Probably could have done away with pockets all together. There is no drawcord at the hem, and the stitching on the inside seems bulky. In my opinion it is set up as more of a casual jacket than a technical jacket, and i will probably get more casual use out of it than anything (to me, it kind of has that casual rain jacket look to it). I will leave the trail running/climbing to the Transition, which has a sportier look and feel to it. Nice overall.
