Moonstone Gendarme Jacket - Men's - 2006

Whether you're skiing on a spring day or guarding the Louvre you'll be warm and dry in Moonstone's Gendarme Jacket for men. The lightweight softshell has a trim fit for a more flattering look than shapeless softshells. The Gendarme doesn't have a laminate membrane so it's super breathable and has a lot of room to stretch. Instead of a laminate the jacket relies on a tight fabric weave and water repellant coating. This improves moment, breathability, and prevents the jacket from soaking up water so it won't get heavy with water.

Bottom Line: Don't worry, the jacket won't make you quaff wine and eat baguettes, it'll just keep you warm.

Le Gendarme Noir

This jacket is sexy, light, and waterproof. I am the envy of my Columbia threaded amigos because whilst I am dry forever in weather afoul, they are dry for an hour and then miserable for the rest of the day.

Simple-effective-stylish-affordable

I purchased this softshell as I wanted a shell which was simply a shell, with no interior fleece liner. This jacket is such a BIG BANG for the buck. It uses a Japanese spun polyester instead of the more popular, and *way* more expensive Swiss Schoeller spun polyester. It has a great pocket setup with zippered hand pockets and an extremely convenient zippered chest pocket. It also has nice interior pouch pockets. Smooth zippers, an athletic cut, and a nice collar and stretch fabric make for a killer-good shell. If you want a high performing, stylish and affordable piece for blue-bird chairlift days, ski-touring, ice climbing and a simple no-nonsense piece, this is a great choice. Also, it’s been a valuable "in-town" stylish jacket, which is a bonus as I'm not fashion conscious. But people have given me nice compliments on its looks. This is a "can't go wrong" piece.
