Montrail Susitna XCR Trail Shoe - Womens - 2006

The Montrail Women's Susitna XCR is the shoe of choice for all-season female runners who need breathability for autumn's dusty trails and superior protection from spring's excess water weight. Rather than placing a waterproof bootie inside the shoe to keep the foot dry, Montrail wrapped the Susitna in a Gore-Tex XCR shell to repel water from the outside. No matter how much time you spend in the wettest of conditions, DryShell keeps shoes from gaining water weight and provides one of the highest levels of breathability ever achieved in waterproof footwear. For added protection, Montrail includes a removable custom gaiter that seals out water from the leg down, and easily snaps onto the heel strap. The internal lacing of this design also allows the user a more comfortable, conforming fit, and a durable, high-traction outsole smoothes the ride for more efficient running over changing surfaces.

Bottom Line: The new standard in completely waterproof, highly breathable trail running shoes. If not the ONLY standard!

Good start

The Susitna's seem to be working for me. I have gone through three pairs of trail shoes to find the ones that work for me. I wear an 8.5 for my road shoes and usually a 9 for trail. I ordered the 8.5 for these and they seem to be fine. I also ordered the gaiters and really like how they attach. I only have 30 miles on the shoe but they seem to be alright. Slight blistering on the inside top arch of my foot (I am not foot technical). I think this is due to the motion control set up, which I need a cushioned only shoe. No big deal, yet, ask me in two months after my first 50 miler.

Dry feet

By:
October 20, 2005

I got the chance to use my new shoes in the week of rain we had in NYC in mid October. WOW, I was testing them by stepping ankle deep in puddles in central park. My feet remained warm and dry! I love them and can't wait for it to rain to use them again.
