Metolius Chalk Sock

The Metolius Chalk Sock provides a quick and easy alternative for climbers who don't like loose chalk spilling all over the place when they climb. This item also fits in well at gyms that don't allow loose chalk. The Chalk Sock keeps your hands just as dry as regular chalk, but it won't spill all over the place when you fall.

Bottom Line: Keep your hands dry and keep the mess down with the Metolius Chalk Sock.

Chalk sock:

By:

I pretty much love the chalk sock. I'm frequently in a gym where loose chalk isn't allowed but I don't want to continue buying 5$ balls for the rest of my life. So buy this and a big bag of super chalk and you're all set! Great chalk distribution on the hands and price savings in the long run.

Chalk Sock!

By:
October 23, 2009

The chalk wall is the neat way of keeping chalk. I lose a lot less chalk than I would without it.

The chalk sock is also useful for low sweat situations. Otherwise, I have to use it every few seconds when my hands get really sweaty. But you definitely conserve chalk that way I think.

Sock It... Sometimes.

By:
October 5, 2009

I'm still about 50/50 on chalk socks. I like them for some climbs, like the easier climbs. But when I start working a difficult problem I much prefer the messy feeling of shoving my hand into loose chalk, covering my hand and keeping me dry for a while. For low work, or low sweat, chalk sock is great though. And the gym prefers them so, it has its uses.

Good for the gym

By:
March 13, 2009

Some gyms make you use them. Others would just appreciate it because there isn't piles of chalk spilled all over the place from knocked over bags.

Basically the chalk is in this little bag. You squeeze it to get some out and on your hands. It works well enough but you do have to squeeze a bit to get good coverage which isn't something you want to be doing on long tall routes. Also the amount of chalk for the price isn't a great bang for your buck.

Suggestion: get one for the gym and use loose chalk out at the crag.

Perfect

Gives you the right amount of chalk and no clumps in mid climb. Plus its a little cleaner than loose chalk. There is not as much dust that gets everywhere. This is the only chalk I will ever use.

Alright Chalk

The Metolious chalk never seems to stick to my hands well. It is cheap though, it gets the job done but if you are like me you might need to chalk up a few extra times to keep your hands dry.

A sock chock full o' chalk

By:
April 29, 2009

It's nice because you don't end up with your hands totally caked in chalk (unless you dig that kind of thing). Also, I'd imagine it would be fun to throw this thing at people too!

Didn't Do It

By:
July 27, 2009

The chalk wasn't the right kind for me. My hands are usually very sweaty and this chalk just didn't cut it for me in keeping my hands dry. I do enjoy the reusable aspect of it though and with White Gold chalk I have noticed a much better performance for me.

Chalk

It is a ball of chalk, what can I say. It works? I wish it was more stylish? The aerodynamics are great? I'm really looking for something with better ergonomics. Its chalk.

Keeps chalk contained, no mess. The sock keeps from overcovering your hands, but still getting enough for use. The downside to that is my hands sweat easily, so with the less amount that the sock gives, I need to reapply more often. Still a useful product, and refilling is a great feature.

chalk sack!

By: Backcountry.com Employee
May 5, 2008

I don't use chalk that often, it's bad form, but when I do I don't like it getting all over the place. This sack does a good job of covering your hands without giving you a cloud of chalk. This style of chalk is now the only options in some gyms. Be respectful and use this instead of loose chalk.

Refillable chalk sock

This thing is nice for several reasons:
1) Keeps chalk from getting all over the place,
2) helps moderate how much you use, so you don't have to get more chalk every week
2) keeps the gym from becoming one big cloud of chalk. better for people with asthma or people who like fresh air.
3) you can refill it, so you're not throwing the empty chalk ball away every week, when you run out of chalk. better for the environment.
4) Some people even boulder with these without a chalk bag, which could save you some cash
5) You can throw them at high-up holds, to get some chalk on there
6) When your chalk bag tips over, you just pick up the ball and put it back in, instead of making a huge mess and wasting it
