Metolius Belay Glove

The Metolius Belay Glove gives the belayer a huge advantage when controlling the rope in the event of a fall or while rappelling. It's the full-fingered version of the Climbing Glove (our item MET0086). The Metolius Belay Glove provides a snug fit and incredible dexterity. A durable cowhide outer molds comfortably to your hand, while split-cowhide reinforcements on the palm and triple stitching will ensure it lasts for seasons come. The Metolius Belay Glove has a webbing clip-in loop and a hook and loop wrist closure.

Bottom Line: Maximize your rope control, and give those tired hands a break!

Great gloves, but size down

By:

Great gloves. Recommend sizing down for a good fit once the leather breaks in. I normally wear a large in winter-esque gloves, but I've sized down to a small for these. After break in, they fit great. I've had some really fast repels on these gloves, and although they do turn black with use, the leather doesn't seem to break down.

Oh, try not to pinch them in your biners. It will crack open the leather.

Durable & Cheap!

I had a pair of gloves 2x the price that were nothing on these. They are comfortable, and really provide excellent traction on rope and equipment. Dirty, wet, or dusty ropes are no problem for these. I haven't washed them yet, so I don't know how much grip or security I will loose, but for the price, I'm really pleased.

How do you size these? I typically wear small gloves. Do these

I found that they run true, but they're quite stiff. Takes a while to break in.

great all around glove

i climb towers for a living and the metolius belay glove is the only glove that stands up to my abuse.

i use all three variations for the hot to cold seasons. the insulated works for 20+ conditions but sometimes i throw a hand warmer under the velcro for extra warmth.

the first to go on this glove is the stitching, especially at the finger tips and the double palm.

my job requires a lot of high speed rope work and this glove has never failed me. the double palm is extremely resistant to rope burn or tearing. the velro wrist keeps the glove secure and stays out of the way.

i only wish that metolius would make a version for colder conditions

Tough like nothing else

I sized these up so I could use them with a fleece liner for ice climbing belays. Basically, I'm tired of trashing my good gloves in only a few days. They've seen a season of iced-up ropes (which bare a striking resemblance to barbed wire) and they still look great. I can't imagine wearing out a pair of these in less than 5 seasons of regular rock belays.
