If you don't prefer the techy space-boot look, you'll appreciate the Merrell Men's Wilderness Backpacking Boots' sleek Italian style. Waterproof leather uppers and grippy Vibram Roccia soles protect your feet from the perils of planet Earth's backcountry surface by keeping them dry in wet weather and stable on slick, steep trail. Merrell gave the sturdy Wilderness Boot a dual density, microporous midsole for shock absorption and breathability. When your trek leads you to a low-angled ice field, take your strap-on crampons from your pack—the Wilderness boots are compatible. Merrell recommends wearing this boot with a midweight hiking sock or a liner/midweight sock combo.
Bottom Line: Get classic backcountry style and comfortable, sure footing when you backpack in the Merrell Wilderness Boots.
These boots are pretty stiff at first and hard to get used to, but they are awesome! Very durable and comfortable once you break them in. I love the old school look and blue laces. Size is right on as well.
Fine boots. Fit is comfortable. Quite stiff at first, but to be expected from this high quality, full grain leather, Norwegian welt boot. After a couple weeks wearing around the office and home they are comfortable. After breaking in, probably not stiff enough for technical or very rough mountaineering, but to be expected for this surprisingly light boot. In all a good compromise between support and acceptable weight for long hikes. I highly recommend it. And it gets a lot of compliments for its strong, smooth, old fashioned looks.
Nope. What you see is what you get. You could get your own laces, though. You can purchase different colored laces anywhere. Just remember to select the proper length.
I picked these up for hiking and travelling while at i soon discovered another purpuse. Riding. These things are tanks. Great water proof no worries for the rain. Top it off very comfy once the break is done.
I've had a pair of these in the past. The length was fine but I have a narrow foot & the medium width was a little too wide. Since then, I have been wearing Asolo's which fit me perfectly right out of the box with minimal break-in.I ordered a pair in my standard 10.5 and the boots were too long. I'd say they are a half size bigger than your normal sizing.
Great boot with a classic look. I wear them all the time in the winter. They are warm and solid. It takes a few weeks to break them in, but I feel are worth the price.
I use them at work in the winter and when backpacking. Work means hiking in snow and through forest. Good grip and ankle support. I roll ankles like its my job but can't do it in these boots. Three complaints: 1. water proofing for snow is hard. I can walk through a sort stream and not get my feet wet, but snowshoeing is a problem. With snow melt working on them for a few hours they will leak through. They also seem so leak through the sole stitching. I've done about three re-water proofings with nik wax stuff. Works OK for rain, but after a full day of watery work, they will leak. Water-proofing also makes them steamy inside. So if you don't think you need waterproofing, don't do it. 2. I don't like the toebox. It's too Euro cut for my square american feet. There's not enough room for my little toe but too much room for the middle toes. Looks more like a girly cut on it than a guys. Size is true though. 3. What color lasses do you put on them? This is mostly a joke but really. Black would be too dull and everything else looks weird. Merrell should do this boot in brown.
They used to come in a wide, but Merrell stopped making them. I wish they still did. I've tried a couple of others, more expensive even, but the Merrells are the best. I'm going to get another pair and have them stretched.
