Bottom Line: Hear it loud and clear; the Merrell Women's Siren Sport Gore-Tex XCR Shoe was made for the ourdoors.
I love Merrells. But if you are looking for support, look elsewhere. The laces don't keep the shoes from becoming loose even when you double knot them. The traction is fantastic and they are well vented but I found myself constantly having to stop and tighten the fit during a recent hiking trip in Hawaii. Don't even think of running in them for any length of time. I've relegated them to my 1-2 hour hikes. A little disappointing.
These shoes are very comfortable and light. I had been looking for some approach shoes for a while (I am very picky) and I am happy with these. The fit is standard and they seem to be holding up very well.
I love these shoes, but i recommend trying them on. The first pair i bought ran a little small and took some time to break in before I stopped getting blisters. The next two pairs I bought (in the same size) fit just fine.
I got them for travel in Europe. While overseas I found myself feeling a bit like an unfashionable American walking around trendy Europe in my regular running shoes, thus the next time I went, I opted for the merrells, just as comfortable and practical, but just a little bit trendier, I fit right in be it on walking the streets, dining out or going out at night. I have several pairs and now wear them all time for running errands and casual wear. I still pledge my full devotion to my Asics when it comes to distance running though.
The lacing starting at the shoe's toe is part of what makes this such an attractive shoe. For me, it was the reason to return the shoe. The lacing support pressed on the joint where my big toe joins my foot. Relacing and changing socks were no solution.
I just bought them. So, didn't have chance to test them in different conditions. However, I wore them during my hiking trip in national parks in Upper NY state. One time, I slipped and stepped into muddy water. However, water didn't penetrate. So, I'm happy with it's waterproofness. But I made mistake with the size. I generally wear 6 1/2, so I went for this size. However, my shoes are too tight. I would advise to go for half size bigger.
I've had these shoes for about 6 months now and they've been great. No break-in time needed! I've worn them up a wet and rocky creek bed with NO slipping and my feet remained totally dry. I've even been wearing them on the slippery ice this winter. After a 12-mile hike, my feet felt great and I could have kept on going! Like another reviewer mentioned when going down an incline, my toes become a little squished and the laces loosen a bit, but nothing that tightening them up can't fix. I did need to buy a 1/2 size larger than what I normally wear. Overall, a great shoe and I am very satisfied with my purchase.
They are the most comfortable shoes ever made on this planet! I love them so much, I bought 2 pairs (orange and tan/wine). I'd like to buy another pair but I'll wait til they go on sale!
great, waterproof, and light! i listened to other reviews and ordered 1/2 size up- i DO NOT recommend doing this; GTX does not seem to affect sizing. should have ordered my regular size.
I got these for Christmas and I can't wait to get out on the trails! I can say what I know so far, they are wicked comfortable! They feel like they were made for my foot. They are very light weight and feel like I have slippers on!
They where for my girl friend, and i see i should have read some more reviews. the ones about the 1/2 size up anyway. cause they are a little too tight for her. thats a shame with such a nice tracking shoe, but hope they can stretch a bit. sending them all the way back to the states is too much hassle... (From Denmark)
I bought these to go hiking in the North-eastern US. I found them to be more than adequate except when going back down the mountain, the lacing doesn't give enough support to keep your feet from sliding to the front, so my toes were a bit squenched, so I had to take breaks and tighten the laces. That is my only complaint though, they are amazing shoes! I just need to learn to make a tighter knot :)
o yeah, and they fit true to size for me, I tried on a few different sizes and I bought the ones that were true to size
