The of town Makaha, made famous for its bandits living in the valley who tormented the city is now known for its fierce waves that reach epic size during the winter months. Maui Jim's Makaha takes its inspiration from this surf spot. They'll help battle the fierce rays of the sun with cutting edge technology and classic style. Made with a Grilamid frame and polycarbonate lenses, the Makaha will give you all the protection you need.
I am a pilot and I have never owned a pair of polarized sunglasses before. I was worried that the polarization would prevent me from reading the guages but this is not the case at all. Polarized sunglasses turn an LCD screen black but I put these sunglasses on and I can still see my guages. If you are wearing these sunglasses and you tilt your head at about a 45 degree angle, an LCD screen will black out, but when does anyone look at anything with their head tilted this much? Another great thing about these sunglasses is how light and durable they are. I can wear them all day and not have any sort of discomfort. I mentioned that they are durable because I watched an in store demonstration and the salesman literally bent the part that rests on your ear in half! I would not recommend doing this on a daily basis, but it is nice to know they can bend that much if they are sat on. I have always used cheap sunglasses but I decided that I should buy an expensive pair because you really do get what you pay for (in most cases) and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I highly recommend these!
Contact Maui Jim. They don't sell replacement parts, but they will fix them for you and the service is warrantied. Much better than taking them to some random shop.
Yep, and you can buy them right here on Backcountry.com! They come in powers of +1.50 or +2.00 or +2.50 in Brown or Grey lenses. Look for the "Makaha Reader"
Great glasses. If you are planning to spend a lot of time on the water these lenses are the best you are going to find. (All Maui Jim lenses are great). For the price, I dont think you will find any better.
This is my second pair of Maui sun glasses and I love them. Stupidly lost the first pair in the waves in Costa Rica. They are great in the sun, fit well and great for eye pertection. I love them.
Sure can. Buy them here, take them to an optometrist who deals with Maui Jim and you'll get them back very quickly. I got mine back literally in 4 days from the day I dropped them off.Hope that helps.
After being a poor and stingy student for so long, I held out before buying a nice pair of polarized lenses. When living in Miami, I really needed a pair of sunglasses that were stylish and funtional at the same time. These sunglasses are lightweight and stay put on your face! which is great for outdoor actives - playing beach volleyball or hiking. They cut glare, and are even great when just driving. After buying these, I can't believe I waited that long! I would not recommend any other pair of sunglasses!
This is actually my second pair of MJ Makaha glasses. I've owned a number of different brands of sunglasses, and without question the Maui Jim's provide the best glare reduction and eye protection on the water. As an avid fisherman, the glare from the water is a big enemy in tracking my prey, and the polarization on these shades cut through it like no other glasses I've owned. The frames are the only reason I replaced the first pair. The lenses held up well, but the frames got loose which caused the mount for one of the lenses to fail, but this was after almost 2 years of use, so in the end, the first pair owed me nothing. Great product if you like the water!
I've had these for about a year and a half. The best glasses I've ever owned. Very lightweight, but sturdy. One day while out biking I tucked them into my shirt, they fell out and landed in cinders underneath the bike and I rode over them. I was sure they would be totally ruined, I actually had to push a cinder out from between the lense and the frame. Incredibly, they weren't even scratched!!! I'll never own anything but Maui Jim from now on.
I can't even tell you how amazing these sunglasses are...If you don't have a pair of these GET SOME!! I have had 3 pairs of Oakleys and they don't even come close to these.
I ordered a pair of Maui Jim Makaha sunglasses and were just like the pair you'd find at the mall, only the price was a bit better than the mall. I'd certainly do future business with this group.
