Maui Jim Hurricane Sunglasses - 2008

When a fabulously sunny day turns into a nasty windy one, sport the Maui Jim Hurricane Sunglasses. When it's sunny, these sporty sunglasses will protect your eyes from glare with polarized lenses. When the wind kicks up, the Hurricane's large lenses and wrap frames protect your eyes from flying debris. The super durable Grilamid TR90 frame can take a few hits and flexes, so these won't shatter if you drop them. Maui Jim gave these sunglasses lenses with glass and polycarbonate—scratch resistant and impact resistant.

Bottom Line: Even if you encounter less than sunny weather, the Maui Jim Hurricane Sunglasses protect your peepers.

Love 'em

By:
April 24, 2008

I purchased a pair of Hurricane's shortly after getting LASIK surgery and have had zero problems with them. I LOVE the way they feel, or as another reviewer wrote, "don't feel". They protect great from sun, wind and wrap around my face perfectly allowing my periphery to be guarded as well. I left my pair on the top of my car as I was leaving my garage and they fell off in the road and didn't have a scratch on them. So not only are they stylish and functional, they are durable. I've been assured that if either the arms or nose piece break that they were easily and freely replaced. These glasses are also protected by a great warranty so that if they do get scratched or damaged that they can be replaced, no questions asked.

Maui Jim Hurricane's

By:
February 10, 2009

I loved how the lenses wrapped around to provide excellent eye protection even on the sides. These sunglasses are lightweight and keep things from blowing into your eyes as they are built sort of like shields. The one thing that I do not like about these sunglasses is the material that the temples are made of. This material is called Grilamid TR90. My Hurricane's broke close to where the temple piece attaches to the lens. I mailed them to Maui Jim and they fixed them and sent them back within a week. After having them repaired they lasted about two months when they broke at the same place but on the opposite side. I then had them fixed by Maui Jim again. After that they ended up breaking again and I never sent them back in to be repaired because I was sick of dealing with this issue on these particular sunglasses. I would not recommend this particular model. For that fact I would not recommend any Maui Jim model's that incorporate the Grilamid TR90 material. Overall these sunglasses have been a major disappointment. I have also owned the Breakwater's and these had the same problems as the Hurricane's. However, the person at the store where I purchased the Hurricane's assured me that Maui Jim had fixed this problem and thus convinced me to give the Hurricane's a try. If you really want a pair of Maui Jim's then I suggest looking at the Flexon, Titanium, or HT series rather than any of the Sport series. Just stay away from the Grilamid TR90 frames.

Bit dissappointing

By:

I have had 2 pairs of these glasses that have broken on the ear lug just where they bend at the lense. I have been told that Maui Jim have now fixed this problem - it was apparently the temperature the frames were bent at. I really hope they have as I just LOVE the feel (or non feel)and look of these glasses. I like them more than my stainless steel frame ones and they are very light also. I haven't had any trouble exchanging the broken ones - and look forward to getting alot of wear from my new Hurricanes.

broken bow

By:
December 28, 2007

My husband and I both purchased a pair of Hurricanes. Mine snapped at the bow when I was putting them on. We took my broken pair back to the Sun Glass Hut where we purchased them and were told these are prone to breaking. SGH offered us 50% off on another pair! Yea Right!! We are now trying to work directly with Maui Jim for repair but are still nervous that unless all four bows are replaced, we could continue to experince bows breaking and having the stump smacking into our eye ball.
