Marmot Zephyr Backpack - 1600cu in - 2008

The Marmot Zephyr Backpack provides you with streamlined storage for day-long activities like rock climbing, hiking, and backcountry skiing. The large main compartment fits extra clothes when you’re in the alpine, and the hydration sleeve fits your water reservoir for sweltering desert hikes. The comfortable waist belt features two zippered pockets for your camera, lip balm or energy bars, and a front Shovit pocket holds a climbing helmet, extra jacket, or a rope. Stay cool when hiking in hot conditions with the Airflow Frame System, which offsets the pack, allowing air to flow between you and the back panel.

Bottom Line: An all purpose pack for when you’ll be home for dinner.

I want to say no. But on the Marmot web site it says "The top of the waist belt is constructed behind both the aluminum frame and the HDPE frame sheet." So I have a feeling the answer is no. if it is behind the frame sheet it usually means it's stitched behind the sheet.

you could go to marmot's website & email customer service also.

Compact and Stylish

Upside: This is a great day pack, but only a day pack not enough room for anything longer. I took this on a day trip up Mt St. Helens and it was comfortable and fit to my body well. It held all I needed for the day and the outside stow is great to hold a large jacket or even shoes. Top pocket is fleece lined for your electronics, which is nice to keep them from getting scratched with the rest of your stuff.

Downside: The pockets in the waist straps are nice, but hard to access when you have it buckled.

Is the waist belt on this pack meant to carry weight on your hips, or just keep the pack from swaying?

To carry weight, just like any other waist strap.

NICE DAY PACK

By:
May 15, 2009

Nice pack: comfortable, roomy enough for a long day, storage and pockets are just fine, with one glaring exception - the hydration pocket is difficult to access to insert the full bladder into it; the padded electronics pocket falls over the opening even if it's empty. Also, there's only room for one bladder in the pocket - I usually carry two bladders with me here in western Colo and eastern Utah because of the dry climate and also because I share my water with my dog - which means the second bladder hangs loose in the main compartment. I will probably relegate this otherwise very nice pack to winter use only, when water needs aren't so great.
