When the storm is over and its nothing there’s nothing but bluebird pow turns in your forecast, zip up the windproof Marmot Men’s Vertical Softshell Jacket. This stretchy shell provides full mobility while repelling all but the worst weather. A zip-off hood, underarm PitZips, and a removable powder skirt let you customize the jacket to the day’s conditions, and Marmot’s Angel Wing Movement ensures the jacket won’t ride up.
Bottom Line: Maximize your ups and downs in the Vertical Softshell Jacket.
in case your body type is like mine [6'1" 165-170 (tall/slender)] this might not be the jacket for you. i was really hoping this would be my answer to a great backcountry softshell (lightweight, breathable, powderskirt, removable hood, etc). but the sleeves were way too short same with the body. and for the record, the cilantro color is a MUCH brighter, lime green in person.
When I first saw this I thought my prayers had been answered for the perfect skiing softshell/hardshell hybrid jacket. I want a mid to light weight softshell (somewhere between a TNF Apex Bionic and a MHW Synchro) with a removable hood, powder skirt and pit-zips (I know softshells breathe, but I still like to open up during/after skiing bumps on sunny CO days)
Pros: Fits well over an athletic mid-weight fleece (I'm 5'10", 175-180 lbs with a longer torso, bought a L), removable hood & powder skirt, pit zips. Would be a great all around ski jacket... BUT
Cons: Hood doesn't come close to fitting over a size Large ski helmet. Pit zips too small to really be effective. Lower pockets not placed well if you ski with a pack with a waist belt. Marmot's generic "M1 Softshell" fabric feels cheap (think White Sierra/High Sierra or other bargain brand soft shells). The zippers on the Rocket Red/Fire are silver, NOT black as shown. Rocket Red/Fire also has a lot more orange that it looks like in the pic.
Verdict? Returning the Vertical and my search continues...
