Whether you’re spending a day in the backcountry or bagging your next 14er the Marmot Men’s Sharp Point Softshell Jacket will block the wind, repel moisture, and prevent you from getting sweated out, thanks to its breathable Windstopper Soft Shell construction.
Angel-Wing Movement allows your arms their full range of motion
The hem cord seals your core at the waist to help prevent snow from stealing your warmth
PitZips dump excess heat when you reach the end of your favorite skin track
Reinforced shoulders and elbows stretch to allow free movement and provide extra durability
Bottom Line: Don’t let the cold weather dull your performance.
Had this jacket for about three years now. I've worn it up Hood, Rainier, and Shasta. I've shot trap in Casper, Wyoming in -10F then rode Grand Targhee two days later in this jacket. The thing to keep in mind about this or any jacket is its designed purpose. Is this for standing out in the rain for hours on end? No. (though I do know a guy who did that and had no complaints) Should you make an ascent of K2 in it? No. It is also probably not a piece you want to be doing your morning job in either. That's why I call it mid-range. For the range of activities in between this jacket is almost perfect (nothing perfect).
Pit zips give it a huge comfort range, and the jackets movement is great. I'm 6'2" 145lb and wear a medium. I often pair this jacket with a Mountain Hardware Monkey Man jacket on the really cold days.
I love this jacket. It blocks the wind great and the DWR coating on it is great. I had a super hero from Marmot for a long time but got this at a good price and havent worn the super hero since. The pit zips are a huge plus and not having to deal with the bulky hood of the super hero has been a blessing. Really nice coat with a nice fit. The one major feature I miss is the chest pocket, but I will take the pit zips over the chest pocket any day! One of my go to softshells along with my MH Terra....got rid of the BC.com shift and this is one of my new favs.
I'm a big fella. I wear XLs in most everything. The Sharp Point fits very comfortably, and I have broad shoulders. It has a stretchy property to it. The DWR coating at first was amazing and eventually wore off and the fabric began to absorb water. SO...I washed it, sprayed with Revivex like the directions say and dried it. Now it's good as new again. It is NOT my go to backpacking mid-layer because of weight. I prefer a quality Gore Tex shell and a super light fleece so I can mix and match as I want for breath-ability, weight etc.
The pit zips work very well. The jacket is super stylish, though I have an older model from a year or so ago. People all the time compliment this jacket and tell me how nice looking it is. This thing is made to block wind like a beast- and it does. I'm pretty sure all windstopper does this well...but speaking for the Marmot Sharp Point- no complaints.
This is the best kick around town and short hike jacket I own. Hope this helps!
I've owned this jacket for about 6 months now. Windproof? I think not. I don't know...maybe mines defective. I can say this much, it doesn't block the wind near as well as my Backcountry.com Shift Welder with polartech. Water resistant? HAH. Not a chance. Water will bead up for about 3 mins and then it starts soaking into the fabric. I would not trust this to keep you dry in even the lightest sprinkle.Sure, it's a comfortable, good looking, and high quality jacket (Zippers are high quality at least). However, the material sucks. I.E. it's fuzzing on the elbows and above the pockets where the pit zips are. Basically, if the material ever runs into itself it fuzzes. I've cut off the fuzz, burned it with a lighter (That actually worked pretty well.) Regardless, it keeps coming back. This jacket is only good for cardio activity if the outside temp is below freezing. If you wear it casually in that temp you're going to freeze your butt off. Also, this jacket could really use a chest pocket. Every other soft shell in its class has one why not Marmot? Oh, one nice thing is the adjustable velcro cuff's...they do help lock your gloves in place and block the wind.Ultimately, I couldnt stand this jacket anymore. At first it has this allure to it.. mostly because it was the first soft shell I ever purchased. Then, it wore off. I recently bought the Backcountry Shift Welder Jacket to replace my Sharp Point. I wont be going back to Marmot.
