Marmot Men's PreCip Pants keep you dry and comfortable in any weather event short of a hurricane. If there's even a 1% chance of rain, you should have a pair of these rain pants with you. They weigh only 7oz and take up almost zero space in your pack, so you have no excuse for leaving them behind. The PreCip Pants are fully seam taped, creating a barrier with the waterproof PreCip fabric that no amount of outside moisture can penetrate. Stay happy and dry in the PreCip Pants.
Bottom Line: Carry the lightweight, waterproof PreCip Pants, and you'll never have to wait for the weather to clear up.
They took up nearly no space in my pack. They are very, very durable. There were many times I'd fall on my ass, scrape against rocks, cake them in mud, walk through 4-5 days of rain. They are good to go for the long haul. They were decent at blocking wind, were great for surviving driving rains, and kept me warm when completely soaked. They did everything they said they did so I gave them 5 stars.
The Marmot PreCip pants seem to get a lot of very favorable press. I purchased both the pants and the jacket, for my primary rain gear and as an insulating base-layer (if required). My initial experience with the pants was not favorable. Although the pants are lightweight, and pack nicely - I'm not convinced that my hiking style and build is ideally suited for the construction and fabric choice used for the pants. After hiking about 20 miles (in rain), I had an actual 'blow-out' in the crotch-area of the pants. Both the coating and the fabric had worn through. The good news was this site stands behind their customers and provided me with a very fast replacement. I have not put the replacement pair through its paces yet - but am currently wearing a slightly heavier and more robust 'Columbia' pair.
They have a short zipper at the ankle, which is long enough to pull on the pants when you are wearing boots. Check out the Precip Full Zip pant if you are looking for a separating side zip pant.
I brought these pants with me to Patagonia and they soaked through, after an hour or so in the rain and left me cold. The zippers are not protected in any way and the seems are not sealed very well. Also, do not buy these for any serious hiking or outdoor activity, they simply are not thick enough. They may be good for city wear. Very light however.
Spent 48 straight hours in the rain in Arkansas and these bad boys held up the whole way. I'd definately recommend them. They're lightweight and very breathable...a valuable piece of rain gear.
I am a 38 year old window cleaner who power washes residential properties. I have been wearing Precip pants for 4-5 years. My first pair saw approx. 300 days of hard use, climbing ladders and rooflines. They are still in use, as I gave them to a young co-worker. Acid stains and all, they are still service- able. My new pair will see double-duty as early season duck hunting pants, as Minnesota in October, gets warmer and GREENER every year! Wash and dry these PreCip products as instructed. Keep them clean in between uses, and they'll pay for themselves over and over.
Great companion to the Precip jacket, even colored coordinated, if that's your thing. Keeps rain off pants & bottoms dry. Boots need to be removed to put pants on, where the full-zip version eliminates that step. Lightweight & small enough to stash, along with the jacket, in a small outer pocket. I don't go backpacking without them.
Wore these precip pants during a recent trip to Antarctica. ore them while cruising in zodiacs, and working outside on a ship. Kept really dry, even when waves coming over the nose of the boat. Great for keeping out the wind as well. Excellent value.
Okay, that title sounds like a tampon commercial. Great pants, easy to slip on and off, good crotch cut for walking. Very little chafing, not too much swish swishing when walking. What can I say... good rain pants, kept me dry in a deluge and in wet sloppy snow. PreCip is great material, very much like TNF's HyVent. Ideally I'd like Gore-Tex but my bank account kept me from having my druthers.
To see inseam lengths, simply click on "View Sizing Chart" located under the Select Options box. Scroll down to see men's inseam lengths. Subtract two inches for "short" inseam lengths.
These pants arent nearly as exciting as new skis or a cool back pack, but they're a vast improvement over my old plastic pants. They are light weight, comfortable, and very packable. I wish the pockets were a little deeper and the zippers on the legs were a little longer. Longer leg zippers would ease getting them on and off while paddling a canoe. Potential buyers should also be aware that these pants are not insulated. Again, theres nothing very exciting about rain gear, but Marmot PreCip is quality stuff for a decent price.
8 days on the West Highland Way in late May/early June of 2007 and the Marmot Precip Pants functioned admirably. The only drawback was getting them on and off with my hiking shoes on. If Marmot would install a longer side-zip, I would be more than happy with the product.
I may not have learned how to spell, but I have learned what gear is essential in a backcountry deluge. The Marmot PreCip Pant is a bulwark against wet pants, wet socks, water in your boots, even a cold night at high altitude. This a product that pays for itself!
this is the third marmot product i have owned and this is the best piece I have used the pants hiking, scrambling, and spring skiing staying dry and comfortable the entire time.
The Marmot PreCip Men's Pant is fantastic. I bought one from this site and have used several times recently in storm weather. It kept me completely dry and worked exceeding my expectation. The pants is very light in weight and highly packable. It also fits well and comfortable. Recommend!!!
I bought these on sale for $56.00 bucks and they are great! Great weather-proofing outside thats rugged as well. Three great pockets that zip up and provide ventilation. My friend bought the Sierra hurricane pants and the crotch ripped out before we got out on the trail. Duck tape was used... lol Anyway pay the money their worth it!
I took these on a rainy hiking trip and they performed great. I were a 32" waist and 33" or 34" inseam in most pants and large long fit me great. They were long enough to keep mud out of my boots and keep my socks dry. They are also very light and very packable. When I came home from the hike I had my brother order a pair for himself.
Purchased 2nd set of PreCip to fit over Goose Down. If there's a better rain suit out there for the price I'd like to hear about it. The new style incorporates front pockets and bottom cuff that can be worn as a normal leg opening or pulled in by elastic cord. I really liked both features. The only negative that I have noticed is the zippers are too small, seems to jam too often. This problem will be found in the Jacket as well.
Waterproof, true to size, and the zippers are well placed. I wish I would have gotten the full zip, but do what works for you. Great ski pant also, super light, no bulk. Snag it for sure!
It does exactly what I bought it to do, keep out water and let out heat. If you're going to be wearing it under any kind of chilly conditions, you'll need another layer.
These pants do a great job of keeping water out. Not only are they good for rain storms, they are also great for keeping water from morning condensation in brush from running into boots. The fabric on these is quit durable and in many miles of use through tundra and bushwhacking I have yet to tear them. I am sure I could destroy these if I tried but what's the point in that. I would highly recommend these pants as they are super light and well worth having. My only complaint would be that they could be a bit roomier as they are a little bit restrictive if using an extended stride.
