Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's - 2006

The Marmot PreCip Jacket is everything you need in a waterproof/breathable jacket at half the weight and price of most others on the market. If there's even a 1% chance of rain, you should have one of these jackets with you. The PreCip Jacket is small enough to stuff into a water bottle and comes in enough colors to travel with you anywhere - to the mountains, the city or overseas. Marmot's PreCip material has gained fame as being perfectly waterproof. Fully taped seams and an attached hood further protect you from the elements. Pit zips keep air flowing and Angel-Wing Movement build gives you full range of motion.

Bottom Line: The Marmot PreCip Jacket is as light as it is functional, as affordable as it is durable.

Marmot Precip Jacket--Mens

By:
January 20, 2005

Well designed hood--a rarity with many jackets. The quality of workmanship and materials is excellent. The only drawback is that the zippered side-entry pockets are placed too high for comfort.

Excellent Value

By:

We have a saying in the Rockies: "If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes." I throw this durable, packable and very lightweight jacket in my pack for fickle storms. I think this is the best rain protection value on the market.

First time Marmot Precip Jacket User

By:
October 2, 2002

Today I tried my new Precip Jacket. It has been raining so I put the jacket on and walked around the outside of the mall. My first observation was the rain beading up on the jacket, like water standing up on a newly waxed car. I wore a heavy vest underneath and noticed the cold on my arms, but warm and comfy otherwise. The hood worked great by keeping the rain from entering anywhere within the opening. After the walk, I went inside the mall and shook the rain drops off the jacket and tested for wetness. To my surprise the material was not damp in any aspect. This jacket will be a worthwhile asset to my outdoor gear now and in the future. Looking forward to the Driclime Windshirt!!!!

Others need not apply

This is by far the greatest jacket I have ever worn. I was known for the quantity of jackets I owned, now I'm down to just the Precip. I wear this jacket through extreme temp. ranges. Throw on a fleece with this over top for winter, and by itself for spring and fall. This jacket has been with me from sitting in stadiums and riding my motorcycle, to walking with my children to serious hiking. I'm planning on taking it on several summits over the next few weeks. I wish I had this when I lived in the Northwest. Everyone from San Franscico to Forks, Washington needs one of these. Only two complaints: the hood doesn't hide away, and the pit zips don't go down as quick as I want - walking in crowds requires a "pit" stop. The only other problem is, my wife found out how perfect a jacket this is and took mine...so I bought another.

marmot precip jacket

By:
December 9, 2002

I have never been unhappy with any Marmot product I have purchased (I may have been a little unhappy when I forked over the big bucks, but...) and the Precip Jacket far exceeded even what positive reviews and Marmot's own description said. This is the BEST breathable, water- and windproof shell I have ever had. It matches some of the most expensive shells out there and even exceeds many of them. Buy this jacket if you want to stay warm, dry and comfortable. Even though it may look delicate, it is not. Worth every cent!

Great jacket!

By:

The Marmot rain gear is absolutely AWESOME!!
I think I love everything about it - from the
zip out ventilation in the arms to the
fabulous color.

My 74-year-old dad loves his new rain
jacket. He says he's going to not only fish,
but golf in it as well.

Thanks so much!!

stay dry

By:
June 30, 2003

Used this jacket at the Telluride bluegrass festival. The first day of the festival it rained all day and I stayed nice and dry in my Precip. It fits pretty true to size. I'm 5’8” 140 and a medium fits perfect. Packs up pretty small as well. This is going to be my staple rain jacket for the rest of the year for sure. Maybe an emergency jacket for sunny ski tours.

A Double-Duty Jacket

By:
July 21, 2003

I am always on the hunt for gear that is light, functional, and will serve double-duty. The PreCip Jacket handily fits the bill for me. It gives me the wet weather protection it was designed for and doubles as the outer layer I need for cool nights and mornings on the trail. I find I can carry a lighter sleeping bag if I use PreCip Jacket and Pants on top of a base layer. Marmot makes sturdy, practical gear, which I enjoy using.

Great Product

By:

Great looking. Quiet (very little swooshing going on). Keeps all the rain out, even in a downpour. More waterproof than breathable though. Wouldn't want to keep this on longer than need be, even with venting open. Pockets are more for venting than for hands (awkward, due to height) or item storage. On the other hand, not many wasted stitches; this is light, and packable, and does not show wrinkles even after being stuffed in a sack all day. Material is very durable. Hood does not roll up very attractively or easily; expect to keep it unfurled. Front zipper coverage is Velcro and buttons; a bit more work than desirable. Every one of the shortcomings listed is outweighed by the price/value equation on this jacket. If you want light, waterproof, and money left in your pocket, here's the answer.

Excellent Jacket

By:
November 22, 2004

Bought the Marmot PreCip Jacket & Pants for my husband because he rides his bike to work, he also goes fly-fishing, walking for exercise and hiking for fun. The Jacket offers freedom of movement, great coverage and the hood adjusts so his side vision is not compromised and his helmet fits under it. The jacket sheds rain and snow (we live in Montana) very well and doesn't seem to cause that clammy, overheated feeling. It packs down to a flat, gallon size zip-lock baggie and rolls up to no thicker than a 4 1/2" diameter (it is an XXL). The pit-zips are great, and the size of the pockets are versatile. However, I wish the pockets were made of a sturdier fabric rather than mesh. All-in-all an excellent product for a great price. We have had Marmot products before and my husband is hard on his stuff and we have always been satisfied with workmanship, quality and how well each product has lasted over the years.

Wow

By:

This jacket rocks! Always stayed dry in it even in the biggest downpours. Breathes like it's alive, and will compress into just about any size u want it to. The weight of this jacket won't break your back after a couple days on the trail either. If you're looking for a waterproof shell this is it!

great jacket

By:
January 26, 2004

Seen everywhere, the Marmot Precip is an excellent jacket. I bought the cedar green in 2x, and it fits well. The fabric is very breathable and comfortable, and the hood fits well. It fits well over my fleece e-vest when its cool and wet outside. Faults that I have with it are 1)the chest slash pockets dont go quite low enough for my taste, so hands in the pockets are pretty high and 2)the roll-up hood I can't quite get the way I want when it is stowed. The problems though I consider minimal, and I would buy this jacket again.

Breathable

By:
June 2, 2004

The great thing about this jacket is that it is light enough to stow away in very small places including its own pocket, but when the rain comes it is so comfortable and you don't get all steamed up. I especially like the zippers on the sleeves that allow more air in.

Superb

Marmot PreCip Jacket is an excellent buy. It is comfortable to wear as opposed to other nylon types that cause sweating. Plenty of pockets and folds into it own pocket. Highly recommend

Sweet Jacket

By:
February 26, 2004

I wore this jacket under Sutherland Falls (New Zealand), the 5th tallest waterfall in the world, and stayed completely dry, even after finishing the rest of the hike that day in the rain. It doesn't stick to your skin, weighs nothing, and breathes like crazy. What else can I say, this jacket rocks.

sweet rain jacket

By:
June 22, 2004

This is a sweet jacket. I used it in Holland when I went sailing on Lake Isilmeer. Worked like a charm. The underarm zips help it breathe with higher levels of aerobic activity. I'd buy another if I needed it.

But on a motorcycle...

By:
July 12, 2004

Bought the MMot on the recommendation of my neighbor who is a 150% outdoorsman. Works as advertised, but the caveat is.. I'm using it for motorcycle raingear... Problems I encounter is water down the neck, mitigated by putting the hood up and tightning the helmet strap under the "chin-cover". Still to be solved. If you have your hands over your head, water runs down your sleeves, suppose that is to be expected. So, my review is 98% great for it's intended use, 85% for what I'm forcing it to do...

Dry, but Cold

By:
February 4, 2004

Good news first - the PreCip Jacket did keep me dry. However, I was also hoping for a little warmth and wind resistance, but the jacket let the cold and wind right through. And it kept the perspiration in also.
