Generally, I've found the ratings for all bags to be "you won't die at this temperature" not that you'll be cozy. If I'm going to be sleeping in sub freezing weather, I'm going to take my 0* bag. For a cold sleeper, a 30-40* bag is a good summer weight, add a liner for spring and early fall.
