Marmot Midweight Zip-Neck Top - Men's

The Marmot Men's Midweight Zip long sleeve shirt covers you in a shaped fit that's easy to layer without accumulating bulk, and the half neck zip dumps heat when the temps rise. The Midweight Zip's flat-locked seams put and end to chaffing while you carry a loaded pack and the slightly-stretchy Polartech Power Dry fabric offers a close fit while wicking moisture away from your core. Marmot treats the Midweight with Cocona Performance technology, meaning you'll come out of the winter season smelling as fresh as a spring rose. We do recommend washing the Midweight at least a few times, though.

Bottom Line: Just say no to stanky base layers.

Great Base Top

By:

Super quick drying and totally breatheable. Best sweat of the year yesterday touring and this base kept me warm and dry all day. Definitely going to get another one next season

Great buy, if you get it on sale

By:
August 5, 2009

This is a nicely made shirt. The fabric is high quality, and the workmanship is top notch. Two things, though:

I would never pay retail for it. I got it on SAC for a big discount, and I'll probably buy another one if they go on SAC again. But retail price is steep for what you're getting.

The other thing is that the collar seems totally unnecessary. If you like collars then definitely get this. If not, get the marmot midweight crew shirt. I believe it's the same material but it had no zip neck and no collar. This one can be worn as a base layer just fine, but it almost seems to work better if it's over another thin layer. The crew shirt would probably make a better base layer.

My rating is four stars, but it's a good four stars. The material feels good on the skin. I tried wearing it in 70 degree weather and it was almost uncomfortably warm.

Fit: I'm 5'11 or 6' and 165. The medium fits great. You probably have a bit of leeway either way on both height and weight. The fit is close but it's not spackled on like some of these shirts are.

Great top

By:
January 29, 2008

This top is the best I own or have owned. the fit is perfect. I thought it was going to be a little short, but I was wrong. It kept me extremely warm, but I never over heated. I got the back loaded with snow while snowboarding and it dried faster than any other top I have ever owned. I think I will buy more.

Warm yet not too warm and not too bulky

By:
January 29, 2008

I got this for a base layer for snowboarding in the Tahoe area. Tahoe is not very cold and can be warm, especially in the Spring.

I really like this shirt. I am surprise at how warm it can be when layering. I also like the that the zip allows me to adjust depending on how warm I am.

On top of this, I find it really comfortable as well.

Good, but not great

By:
April 21, 2008

Does dry quickly. I have not worn it yet under testable conditions for warmth, however. The fabric collects lint and and you can't remove it. Get a light color, not black. Also, the collar is way too big. It should fit close to your neck to hold in heat, but it is loose. I have 17 inch neck and wear a large. The neck looks like a 22" or so -- and it's stretchy, so not sure why the cut it so large. Finally, it is too short. Doesn't stay tucked-in in the back. I'm 6 ft 2 inch, 180 lbs. Fits well in the chest and arms, but if they made it a couple inches longer it would be better. If you've got a 22' neck and stand about 5'10" a large size should fit fine.

Gift for Dad

By:
April 13, 2009

Dad uses this midweight baselayer on late winter/early spring morning runs.

He slowly warmed up to it and now it's a staple of his early morning run clothing portfolio.

Marmot Shirt comin' through, like this company

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 10, 2007

This shirt has a comfortable fit, not too hot. Dries quickly. Lots of tours already in it...not smelly.Wearing it 2-3 days a week. It is was 7 days a week perhaps...but that's normal with any shirt. I really like Marmot clothing anyway so this shirt's performance doesn't surprise me. Thanks for the great shopping experience also, love your site. I'll be back for more...
