Marmot Guides Down Vest - Men's

The Marmot Men’s Guides Down Vest acts as a killer mid insulating layer on that long, freezing ski approach, or as an effective outer layer on that cool October climb day. A wind flap behind the front zipper blocks cold air from sneaking in and 650-fill down keeps the heat in. Marmot gave the Guides Down Vest an inside zip stuff sack pocket to make it easy to store away in a small corner of your pack.

Bottom Line: Invest in warmth.

Solid Vest

This is a really well made vest with thoughtful details. The entrire collar lined as well as the chin guard. It has lined hand warmer pockets and an internal stuff pocket. I'm 6'2" 240lbs with a 46" chest and I bought the XL. The vest does have extra room (ie--too much) in the belly, but I have a feeling if I got the L it would be too short. Overall a really nice vest.

Great vest

My wife has the woman's version...very flattering on her and she says it's really warm. Bought the men's equivalent and I'm loving it. Really warm down, nice and compact without feeling flimsy, good pockets, reasonably waterproof and it even manages to look good. If anything, runs slightly large, but I prefer a slightly loose fit so I can wear it over a few other layers underneath.

Warm and versatile

The nicest thing about this vest is that I can zip it into my marmot hardshell for skiing, mountaineering, backpacking, cold rain, you name it. It keeps my internal temp very warm and if I get to hot I can take it out of the jacket or use my pit zips. I'm 6'1 175lbs and have a med and it fits me very well. If you have a really long torso or weigh over 220 I would probably go large but if you don't like it send it back and get the right size. I wear it all the time over my icebreaker pullover and I'm never cold. One of the best investments I have currently.

The best of the lot

I tried a bunch of different vest and this is about the best I found. I love the elastic around the armpits to keep cold air from coming in or heat from escaping. I am a real fan of Marmot outdoor gear, as is my daughter.

Love my new Marmont down vest. Have had lots of vests in the past and always seem to poke a hole in them somehow and down slowly leaks out. Duct tape works but not to appealing. See how long I can make this one last. Very affordable and I love the inside pocket stuff sack. Excelent idea. Very warm.

Don't leave home without it

Very warm, plush, not too pooofy. Returned the large 'cause my belly isn't that round. (yet) The medium black is slick and fits well even though I have broad shoulders and ape like arms. Put a coat over it and it makes me look buff.

I'm 6" and size 35 waist, 32 leg in pants (which should translate to short legs and a longer torso. The XL in this jacket was extremely wide for me. The Large was narrower than the XL (probably could have been a little more narrow for my liking) and the length covered came down just over my belt - so I was ok with the length but would have preferred it be another 1/2 inch longer if I had the choice. I ended up going with the large. I also tried on the 700 fill North Face vest - it was slighty longer than the Marmot and more fitting in the width. Honestly the Northface fit better and I would have bought it but I just couldn't get past the big white logo on the front and back. Marmot seems to be more sublte about that sort of thing.

I'm 6'2 and ordered the large but it seems like the vest has too much room in the stomach section, as you indicated yourself. You think the medium would be too short ?
