Marmot designed the Eiger 48 Backpack to be a versatile, do-nearly-anything pack for day and overnight trips in the summer and winter. The 2980cu inch volume lets you head out for the weekend if you pack light, and it easily carries all you need for a ski tour or day or cragging. Yes, I've done over-nighters with bags smaller than this. As long as you pack relatively light, you can easily get away with it.

You sure could. I would recommend strapping the tent to the outside, that is usually a lot more useful in terms of utilizing all of inside space.
