The Marmot Eiger 36 Pack is a great all-around mountaineering pack, ideal for short, intense trips where you need a compact design that can take serious abuse. This Marmot pack has enough room for a rack, a rope, food, water, and shell gear. Side compression straps secure skis to make this a great pack for backcountry skiing, too. Dual ice axe loops keep essential mountaineering tools in place. Marmot's V-compressor load transfer system helps distribute the pack's weight over your middle back and lumbar areas for comfort and stability. A breathable DriClime hip-belt aids in moisture control and remains comfortable over a harness.
Bottom Line: A multi-purpose pack, the Marmot Eiger is at home in many environments.
The Eiger is a good all around pack. The ski carry works quite well both ways. One could possibly fit an overnight into it. Simple, easy to use pack. A little on the heavy side, mainly because of the fabric, which such seems bomb proof. It didn't let any thing in during a 5 day ski tour. Only a few cons,it doesn't pack down well when empty, the outer two pockets are useless when pack is full, and there's no external shovel carry. I'd recommend for those looking for a heavy duty, carry all day pack.
this pack is great. I have used it a couple times for weekend trips and it works great for me. I would definitely recommend this pack to anyone looking to do a lot of different things.
My Autumn/Stardust Eiger 36 is the most gorgeous pack on my campus. The free 7 day shipping put it in my hands yesterday. I carried several of my college textbooks and laptop comfortably all day. It has more straps and adjustments than the description describes. The removable hood has three zippered compartments. The double drawstring top also has a strap and snap that can tighten down a large top load, or compress the mouth on small loads when the hood isn't used. Side straps pull the bag close to your body for good balance. It has several belt and shoulder adjustments. I'm 5'9" and the medium pack is comfortable, but if I wanted to put a heavy load in it, and have it fit like a big pack, then I think I would get the large pack for the longer hip to shoulder length. It should fit perfectly for long bike trips. Heavy duty material puts it at a hefty three pounds for its size, but its solid, and has plenty of room. I use my gear to the eXtreme and this Marmot should definitely do the job from my 25mi/24hr speed backpacking trips to my over-the-handlebars mountain biking for many years. I question Coombs ski system, but plan to do some backcountry testing. Also, it just fits the carry-on regulation for Northwest Airlines, so it will double as my carry-on when I fly to Chamonix this summer.
This is great pack; I've used it for every type of hike. For a couple summers I worked as a ranger at Philmont and this pack started off as a "I'll risk it and try to pack this light" and then it turned into, "why take anything else?" If you are out for short time, it'll fit everything. If you have less group gear, you can make it work. Its very streamline and minimalist, it just all around solid. It also fits in the overhead compartments on airplanes, so its awesome for those short trips home.
This bag is nice. Great for a long day hike or a weekend trip if go light. There are a plenty of straps and tighteners so you can either strap biner or tons of gear on to the pack if something doesnt fit inside. The one drawback is that its only top loading so sometimes I end up digging to find something. Its also a little heavy, but the beefiness is nice especially when backcountry skiing you dont have to worry about it snagging and ripping or anything.
I carried my Eiger Pack on a one-nighter backpacking trip in the desert. It was a very steep hike in and out and the pack was super comfortable the entire time. The mesh waist-belt is great. I was able to carry my sleeping bag, sleep pad, cookware, and extra clothes, but it did require several tries to get it all in.
I have used this pack for 2 years now, from winter camping to summer climbing. Great suspension system. Make sure you layer stuff in a well thought out manner, only being able to get to stuff from the top means emptying the whole thing to get to that lost cliff bar at the bottom of the bag. If I had a choice now I would get the Eiger 45.
