Marmot uses recycled plastic bottles to create the UpCycle fabric used to make the Men’s Cauldron Insulated Jacket. EcoPro insulation keeps you warm and an elastic draw cord on the hem blocks snow and cold air from getting in. Articulated shoulders and arms allow for a full, unrestricted range of motion for climbing, skiing, or doing the Macarena, and Zippin design allows you to merge the Cauldron with other compatible Marmot jackets.
The Cauldron rocks. Great athletic fit, plenty light. I like the use of elastic at the cuffs rather than velcro - less bulk. The hand pockets are nice and toasty with a little microfleece in there. It's a very simple and functional jacket - best insulated jacket I've owned. BTW, there are on pit zips - another reviewer mistakenly said there are.
I love the feel of this jacket. It has a very sport friendly fit. Also has pit zips for when it gets hot. The only down side is that it isn't water proof but it does keep out wind.
Works great with my Marmot Tamarack jacket. Zips in perfectly. Very comfortable and adds great warmth to Tamarack. Actually more comfortable than I had anticipated. Do not plan to wear it alone. I wouldn't considerate it a sharp looking jacket by itself and I did not expect it when purchasing jacket.
It's a bit shinier and shorter than I'd like (i'm tall and thin), but I mainly use it under a shell, so these are acceptable faults for me. I also looked at the north face redpoint, which is a little longer and less shiny. However, the lined collar on the cauldron (which the redpoint doesnt have) is awesome. It keeps your neck warm and prevents air from entering from the neckhole, eliminating the need for a scarf or other neck covering, which is huge for when I'm out on the mountain. The cauldron also has fleece lined pockets and an inside pocket (unlike the redpoint), which is nice. Overall I'm happy with it and would get it again.
Bought a large to fit over my other layers and it's perfect. I'm 5'10", 170lbs. keeps me warm, dries quickly if you sleep in it damp. hasn't ripped anywhere yet.
