When you reach basecamp or the belay ledge, whip out the Marmot Men’s Ama Dablam Down Jacket and envelope yourself in high-lofting, 800-fill goose down. This compressible puffy stuffs into its own interior pocket for easy stowing, and zippered hand-warmer pockets keep your digits functional for the upcoming pitch.
Bottom Line: Belay or acclimatize from the lofty confines of the Ama Dablam Jacket.
Ive had this jacket for almost a year and its holding up fine. The season I went mushroom hunting in it and the bushes were over my head so bush wacking was an understatement. I even had a blackberry bush grab it and I thought for sure there will be a snag. Not one was to be found! Hoods great, warm, light weight, yada yada yada
Looks like a great jacket. Im stuck between whether I should order a large or medium. I'm 6ft and around 160 pounds. I prefer a more tailored fit, but I don't want the sleeves to be too short.
Tim - Thanks for the response. However, I'm not sure why you'd think a fairer comparison exists between the Marmot Greenland Baffled Jacket and its 300 grams of 800 fill down and the Fitz Roy's 181 grams of 800 fill down. If the Ama has 125 grams, as you suggest, it is much closer in fill weight (albeit sewn-through construction) to the Fitz Roy than the Greenland. I'd say the Greenland is more apples to oranges.....
Fill weight on the Ama Dablam is 125 grams of 800 fill power down. Center front is 24" and center back is 29.5" and total weight is 18 ozs. With respect to the Fitz Roy Hoody, it a bit of a apples to oranges comparison, as the Ama is designed as an ultralight, packable hoody great for less cold conditions and layering. A better comparison might be to the Marmot Greenland Baffled Jacket which is much, much warmer. (300 grams 800 fill down)
Solid lightweight hooded puffy. Seems well made, nice down fill, compresses well. Fit seems slightly large. I am 5'9 145 and small is perfect. Fits over my softshell for backcountry/belay usage and under my hard shell for cold-ass conditions. Good details, pockets, hood design. Cheaper than the patagonia down hoodie, and a little warmer/useful as a belay jacket. Not as light though.
Got the blue to add a little cheer to a cold day. Its a little shinier than I would have hoped for, maybe should have gone gargoyle.
Hi. Can anybody tell me the lenght of the back(from collar to the bottom) on large and extra large. I am 1.85 tall and i am not sure wich size to buy. Thank you :)
Uh, no down does well in heavy rain (that's what hard shells are for). Down is made for cold, dry environments. A blizzard should be fine though, as long as the snow isn't real sloppy. Notice the tech specs say "water-resistant."
Ama Dablam is a mountain in the Himalaya range of eastern Nepal. The main peak is 6,812 metres (22,349 ft), the lower western peak is 5,563 metres (18,251 ft). Ama Dablam means "Mother and Pearl Necklace" (the perennial hanging glacier is thought of as the pearl). For several days, Ama Dablam will dominate the eastern sky for anyone trekking to Mount Everest.
i just got it in the mail.. large gargoyle the color is great a little darker then in the pics no where near black but deff darker grey great to hide all the dirty spots. however i consider myself a medium person i am 5 10 155 average build and a large is to big so hope that helps.. great fill not to puffy but deff will do the job good zippers and hood is kind of fitted not just stuck on there like some others.
How does this compare to the previous version? In particular, how does the length compare and is there still a draft flap behind the zipper? Also, how small does this pack down to? Nalgene sized?
The Fill Power of the Down on the new one is 800, the previous Ama Dablam was 650 so it's higher quality and the jacket is a little lighter. Quilt lines are also updated. New one is definitely nicer. Fit is similar.
