Marmot Adventurer Jacket - Men's - 2007

The Marmot Men's Adventurer Jacket provides ultra-light waterproof protection at an affordable price. Best part about this rain shell is that at only 15oz, you'll never have a reason to leave it at home. With fully taped seams, a removable storm hood, and comfortable DryTouch lining, the Adventurer keeps you dry all hike long. This is simply one of the most affordable lightweight, waterproof jackets available. The Adventurer is micro-stitched and 100% seam taped. It looks, feels, and performs like any top-of-the-line shell, but it's even lighter—bring it as a just in case shell and you won't even notice it in your pack. Ideal for serious hiking, light climbing, and backpacking pursuits where nasty weather might be on the horizon, the Adventurer tackles any adventure without weighing you down.

Bottom Line: Heavy on weather protection, light on you and your wallet.

Zipper Issues

By:
August 5, 2008

For the most part, I really liked the jacket. It was light weight as advertised, and the hood had a really nice cinching system that I would have loved. However, I couldn't get over a zipper problem. Whenever I unzipped the jacket, it would get caught in some stitching near the bottom of the neck. I exchanged the jacket, hoping it was just a fluke, but the second jacket had the same problem. A friend of mine got this jacket on the same deal here and he had similar problems but chose to live with it. I ended up returning this and getting a Marmot Stretch Jacket instead - I don't have the cool cinching feature on the hood, but the I don't have to mess with the zipper either.

More Zipper Issues

Every zipper on this jacket - main, pockets, pitzips - consistently gets caught on the adjacent fabric. Using any zipper is basically a two handed process - one to zip and one to pull fabric taught so it doesn't land in the zipper. I'm not impressed by the waterproof-ness as I expected. Some water beads but a lot soaks in also.
