Mammut Matterhorn Superdry Single Rope - 10.2mm - 2008

The Mammut Matterhorn Superdry rope’s kernmantle sheath protects the shock-absorbing core fibers, resulting in smooth flex and exceptional abrasion-resistance. With its 10.2mm diameter, this durable rope is lightweight and easy to clip. The Matterhorn resists both dirt and water absorption, and its 60m length often eliminates the need for double rope rappels.

Bottom Line: From top roping to alpine climbing, the Matterhorn excels.

I prefer my beal, but this'll do. It handles well and looks pretty out of the package. It started to turn my hands black after about 4 pitches. it gets dirty reaaaaall easy.

So we are getting this one and wondering if it has a center marking

So we are getting this one and wondering if it has a center marking on it, and if it doesn't what can we use to mark center

It probably doesn't, but you can use a designated rope marker (Beal makes one). Don't use ordinary Sharpie, it's been shown to weaken the fibers. You can use any water based marker, like the scented kids ones. Then your center mark will smell like black licorice!---------------- I have the blue version of this rope and it does have center markings. Can't go wrong with this rope..

Me and my wife are new to climbing and got a mammut infinity

Me and my wife are new to climbing and got a mammut infinity as a wedding gift. We are going to be mainly top roping, with and occasional ice climb, and run up the grand teton and were wondering if we should keep the infinity or swap it out and get this.

The Mammut Infinity is way more rope than you need as a beginning top-roper. You can get a decent rope for that purpose (10.2mm-11mm, doesn't have to be dry-treated) for <$130. For the occasional ice climb, the same rope with dry-treatment (add~$20) will work for both. But, the right rope for a beginning top-roper isn't the best rope to drag up an alpine route. If I were in your shoes, I would probably buy a new dry rope for top-roping/occasional ice climb, but hold on to the Mammut Infinity just in case you find your climbing interests change. To add to that, I personally don't see the point in getting a rope bigger than 10.5mm these days, just too much rope to drag around for anything! Most 10-10.5mm ropes are way burly enough. Dry treatment not only makes it better for alpine climbing, but it actually adds to durability of rope as well.
