Mammut Freeride 25 Avalanche Package

There aren’t any ski patrollers or groomed slopes when you head out into the backcountry, so come prepared with the Mammut Freeride 25 Package. This avalanche safety kit comes with Mammut’s Pulse avalanche beacon, Freeride 25 pack, Probe Light, and Alugator Light Shovel. Load your puffy, lunch, and other essentials into the pack’s spacious main compartment, and slide all the avy gear into the organizer front pocket. Ski and snowboard attachments hold your planks on the uphill slog. If a slide occurs, the Pulse Barryvox transceiver features a 360-degree display and works for multiple victims. The Probe Light snaps out quickly, and the lightweight aluminum Alugator shovel helps you dig like a snow gopher.

Bottom Line: Come fully prepared for backcountry conditions.

Great Pack

Purchase pack only at backcountyoutlet.com.I have not experienced any of the problems Peter speaks of, though he does have about 30 lbs on me.I was looking for a ski-specific camelback that could carry a couple extra layers, snacks and my skis or snowboard. This thing definitely fits the bill. The height of the pack and hydration sleeve is perfect for my 3L unbottle. It has plenty of room while remaining fairly minimalist by creating volume in it's height and width more than it's depth, which is good for the lift. Just enough padding on the shoulders, back and hip belt. Materials are tough and will carry a snowboard vertically or skis diagonally or A-frame. Nice touches like the safety whistle integrated in the chest strap clip and elastic bands to tie down the extra length of strap coming from the hip belt let you know that this thing was much better thought out than your little brother.

It says "Ski and snowboard attachments hold your planks

It says "Ski and snowboard attachments hold your planks on the uphill slog." are the attachments pre-attached on the bag, or would I need something else? Looking for snowboard carry ability...those two straps on the pack would work, correct?

I am trying to figure out the difference between the beacon in

I am trying to figure out the difference between the beacon in this package vs the respect 30 package. They are both listed as the mammut barryvox, but the specs for each package are different. Thanks

Pack is poorly designed

By:
March 6, 2009

I purchased this package to head to Utah for some back country skiing. I have no complaints with the beacon/shovel/etc. but the pack is no good. First, the zipper ties fell off two of the zippers making it very difficult to get in and out of the bag everytime I had to get my skins. Even if they did not come off, they are way too small to pull with gloves on. The side pockets are of very little use as the ski straps constrict the pockets. The shoulder straps are very narrow so when you are wearing the bag, the straps are on edge instead of lying flat. Finally, the chest strap that holds together the shoulder straps is too short, so you have a lot of tension on the chest. I am 6' 195lbs. Perhaps the bag would fit someone who is smaller better. Either way, good luck getting to that shovel to dig your buddy out of an avalanche with those zipper ties!
