Mammut Focus Harness - 2008

Mammut designed the Focus Harness to feel comfortable whether you’re whipping on a three-pitch route, red-pointing your summer project, or chilling on belay. Plush 3D mesh padding cushions without causing pressure while you work your way up that massive crack. The Hypalon skeleton amps up support, so you won’t feel like you’re hanging in a harness made of tube socks. Four molded gear loops hold your rack, and anatomical, adjustable leg loops accommodate those burly post ski-season quads. Thanks to the Focus Harness’s Slide-Bloc buckles, you don't need to double back.

Bottom Line: Focus on comfortable climbing.

Is there anywhere to attach a chalk bag in the back of this harness?

Is there anywhere to attach a chalk bag in the back of this harness? I know that it doesn't have a haul loop in the back but I want to know if anyone knows if there is any place to attach the bag in the back.

There IS a loop on the back, but if you use the loop and a carabiner, your chalkbag will constantly twist. I took a small piece of cord/string and tied one end to the hole on the left side rear gear loop, threaded the cord/string through the loops of my chalkbag, and then tied the other end to the hole on the right side rear gear loop. It acts like a mini chalk bag belt in that I can slide it back and forth, and it keeps the chalkbag perfectly flat against my backside.

Decent Harness

The Mammut Focus Harness is good for a first harness, only thing it lacks is a haul loop. When you cinch it down there is lots of extra material on the belt (I'd say size down if you're on the border of sizes), and the elastic loop to secure the loose end isn't very well designed. But for $30, I bought this an extra for taking friends out to try climbing. Perfectly fine for that role.

The size chart seems wrong. The large is smaller than the medium.

If you look at all of them, you'll notice there's a fair bit of overlap between sizes to accommodate extra layers etc. Pick the one you fit closest to the middle of. And remember to measure your true waist, not where your pants go. Harnesses are supposed to sit high.
