When you're looking for your buddy and the clock is ticking, you want an avalanche beacon that's fast, accurate, and easy to use. You can trust the Mammut Barryvox Avalanche Beacon when lives are on the line. The Barryvox is held in a secure, comfortable harness that provides fast access. Tap the search button three times to see a digital signal with the direction and distance to a buried victim. The display is simple to follow, even for those with very little practice (though you should practice often!). You can also choose between digital and analog mode to work more efficiently in the event of multiple burials or big debris zones, where more experienced users tend to prefer an analog beacon.

Bottom Line: When you need it the most, this trusted beacon is the easy to use.

I switched to the Barryvox this past season after five years of Tracker use. When set up in all-digital mode, the Barryvox is *almost* as fast as the Tracker, although the switchover to search could be a bit confusing for the unfamiliar user. Overall, if you plan on never practicing (a bad plan!), or want a dedicated loaner beacon, the Tracker is still best. But for an advanced user, who wants to be able to switch to analog for a multiple-victim burial, or who wants to take advantage of the Barryvox's other customizable features, the Barryvox definitely offers the best of both the digital and analog worlds.

Why discontinue this?

A popular well reviewed beacon at an affordable price and it's withdrawn and replaced with a new model that's $100 more. Money grabbing practices like this will cost lives.

It's a DTS Tracker for me.

The Barryvox is a great beacon. Easy to use and follow. I did drop mine on the ground and had to send it back to Mammut. They sent me a new one within two weeks. Practice, practice, practice.

this beacon is awesome. Directional arrows are fantastic, very comfy to the body, super reliable, easy to use. I used it in drills and was consistently impressed.

This beacon is phenomenal. I am thankful to not have HAD to use it yet - but any practices I do - it is so easy and so quick. During an avalanche certification course I used one - and was always the first to find the hidden beacon.
Your friends will want to go skiing with you if you have this. If they don't have one themselves - make them go first.

Barryvox Avalanche Beacon

By:

This beacon is really the best you can get today. It is small, reliable, accurate, robust and simple to use in emergency situation. My life was saved by one Barryvox 19 years ago (and a skilled user!). I can only strongly recommend them to anyone who is going to be exposed even to a LOW risk of avalanche! Use it every time you go out and enjoy your outings.

Impressive

I was definitely impressed with this beacon. It is very compact and comfortable to wear all day while ripping up the back country. The best feature is that it allows you to test other beacons to make sure they are working. So not only can you be confident in your beacon, but you can trust that your buddy's is working too.

Works great!

Works great for the backcountry. Easy to use. Comfortable on the body, hardly notice it. I am an old Pieps user, so the easy directional finder was so easy to practice with and find another beacon quickly. Make sure you practice with it though! VERY IMPORTANT. After you get the hang of it, it is a fine beacon. The only one I think that might be easier to operate is the DTS Tracker. Very happy with this purchase.
