Mad Rock Frenzy Climbing Shoe - Men's

Long trad climbs and intense crack pitches call for the tailored performance of the Mad Rock Frenzy Climbing Shoes. Their protected lace design keeps the laces from ripping to shreds after one pitch of Indian Creek hand crack and provides a more secure jam as well. Mad Rock gave the Frenzy Climbing Shoes their X-Static lining to reduce stretch and keep the smelly foot factor low. They also added a FX5 Hooker heel cup to give you a better chance of sending that ultra-steep project you have been eyeing lately.

Bottom Line: Lace up the Mad Rock Frenzy Climbing Shoes, and bring on the cracks.

comfortable for a long climb, yet technical enough for the hard stuff. Great all around climbing shoe!

Great Shoe

By:
March 23, 2009

My first pair of climbing shoes and I really like them. I have rented some shoes before, but these shoes are still my favorite. I have pretty skinny feet and this shoe fits them well.

Get Frenzied

By:
May 28, 2008

Fits my foot a little differently than the phoenix (tighter on my second toe...), but other than that surprise, I love the rubber and these shoes seem to excel on overhangs... Plus can you really beat getting to yell "get frenzied" when you jump on a climb?

Oh boy! This is my first pair of climbing shoes and they are painful! I ordered a size up and I can't even uncurl my toes. Is that correct? Because I am in pain just trying them on.

You should get the smallest you can bear, not hurting, but your toes should be slightly curved, it does make a big difference. With other brands you usually need to get one size smaller than your street shoe size, Mad Rock already takes that into consideration, usually you'll need half a size bigger. Also try out different shoes, some may adjust to your feet better, shape matters. When I started climbing I got big sized pretty comfortable shoes, It felt great at first but after 2 or 3 months you'll notice you need a better grip, and more sensitivity, otherwise you'll have to stick to medium or large footholds. Your fingers shouldn't move at all inside, you'll probably have to take them off between your first climbs, but that's the way it's supposed to be. Remember these would give almost half a size, while unlined leather ones will give up to a full size after a while.

Companies' sizing really varies with climbing shoes. Mad Rock runs really small. Your toes should be pushing against the front of the shoe, but if they hurt, they're no good, regardless of the size. You'll stick with climbing longer if they're not painful, and it's really not a big deal until you're climbing really hard routes.

the best thing to happen to Mad Rock was the Shark!....

By:
November 11, 2008

The best thing that Mad Rock put out was the shark but since they discontinued those these are the next best for crack climbing from mad rock, for a crack shoe I don't recommend going with mad rock shoes. The initial sole is not spectacular, they don't stick well and they wear out quickly. I would recommend the 5.10 pitons for a sick crack shoe that won't let you down. I have a wide foot and usually go a 1/2 size up depending on material and brand for crack shoes.

good shoe

By: Backcountry.com Employee

These are pretty good shoes, they have a flatter shape, but the rubber is sticky. I wear a women's 6.5 street shoe, and the size 5 fit me well. The rubber is pretty thick on these, so they will last you a while.

Trad Happy

By: Backcountry.com Employee
May 5, 2008

This shoe is built for Trad. It's much thicker than most shoes which adds extra cushioning when jamming your feet in cracks. The rubber around the laces does a great job protecting the laces when crack climbing as well. One thing I did notice is they were a bit warmer than most shoes, probably because they are thicker. If you're going to be in your shoes for long periods of time these are perfect.
