MSR Skinny One Tent 1-Person 3-Season

The MSR Skinny One Tent puts a whole new spin on the solo camping thing. Basically, it doesn’t have to be cramped and uncomfortable. This sub-three-pound tent provides a spacious 15sq feet of sleeping room and a large vestibule to keep your gear out of the rain as well. MSR used a single-wall SilNylon design to lower weight and decrease pack size. You also get a few extra guy-out points for better support if the weather turns out to be a bit nastier than you expected.

Bottom Line: Carry less weight and still sleep better.

Hi! I am trying to figure out which tent to buy, this one or the mountain hardwear stiletto.... My two biggest concerns are fitting in the tent (I am 6'2", 190 lb athletci build) and how it stands up to rain/snow? Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

I bought this tent a few months ago and have taken it on a few trips. I am 5'10" and fit in this tent with a few inches to spare. I really enjoyed this tent on some of the summer trips i went on but as it started to get colder the condensation became a real problem. As long as the window at the head of the tent and the flap at the foot of the tent are open it is not to bad.

Yes. In fact this is one of the best features of this tent. It uses a gutter system which enables the user to zip in a waterproof flap over the no-see-um mesh back window. Therefore if it starts to rain, all you have to do is zip it up and you will not experience any moisture getting in from the outside. As soon as the rain lets up, without exiting the tent, you then unzip this flap which will maintain circulation. It's a brilliant design...

This is a great tent. If your not an ultralighter and want a good 3 season tent this should be your choice. Its a single wall but if you open the venting by the head and the small upper vent by the foot (thats how I lay in there) its decent. You will get a bit of condensation but for the price this is a great tent. The vestibule swallowed my boots and Gregory Z55 with ease and had room to spare.

One thing to note: the cool feature of the overhead vent system only opens near the vestibule. There is no opening on the opposite side, this I feel is a little misleading. It sounds as though the tent vents across the entire roof with openings on both ends but alas there is just one vent by the vestibule. Its not a negative but something that should be noted. If you cannot open the large screen on the opposite end of the vestibule the roof vent really provides no ventalation what so ever. And this of course leads to condensation.

All said and done this is a good tent for the money. A great single wall that packs small and is light enough to be worthwhile!

Hi, I really like the look of this tent, and am seriously considering purchasing it. I know that they are new for this year, so there are not any reviews for them yet. I am planning a thru hike on the AT in the spring of 2010. I know this is a 3 season tent, and would like to bring it along. Would this be as good as any other lightweight 3 season tent? I am a little leary as to how it would do in the rain

Hi Jason, The reason that i didn't care for the tarptent contrail was also the durability. I have read and talked to some people that have used them and they love them. As far as the Big Agnes tents go, i feel that they are also not very durable in the long run. The design of them just seemed real flimsy. I also agree that the vestibule is small, and also felt too cramped inside. Thanks for the info and opinion on the MSR Skinny One. I think that it will be the tent that i am going to probably go with._________________________Cool - best of luck on the AT!! - Greg
