Pack MSR's Mugmate Coffee and Tea Filter and satisfy your outdoor java cravings without having to pack out soggy paper filters. The Mugmate's low profile stores in just about any mug or cup for easy packing, and remains reusable for all your camping adventures.
Bottom Line: Brew up a quality cup of coffee or tea when you're in the backcountry with MSR's reusable Mugmate Coffee and Tea Filter.
I love this puppy, but I lost mine down the San Joaquin, Now I have to get a new one. Easy to Pack, light weight, and simple. Ignore the directions, instead make cowboy coffee in your kettle, cram filter into your Nalgene, filter out the grounds and drink. If you use it in a mug the wings are too narrow and it falls in. Also it displaces too much liquid in your cup to be worthwhile. You can always make strong coffee weaker but it's hard to make weak coffee strong. Trust me.
Put four tablespoons of coarsely (and freshly) ground coffee into this MSR filter. Add 12 ounces of water, and wait about four minutes for your coffee. Very simple. (HINT: If you're interested in the MSR coffee filter, check out the Finum brewing basket, which is the same as the MSR for much less coin.)
Adequate coffee filter that works well and is durable. It makes coffee and that's all you need it for. The wings fit my camping mug perfectly but if you have a favorite mug that you cannot separate from, you might want to make sure it'll fit (wings are 4" wide).
used it every morning out on the trail. works like a charm and to get the most out of your coffee grounds, press down with your spork to really squeeze that oil out of your beans. small and lightweight, stored right inside my mug. made many a rainy morning tolerable by having a piping cup o joe.
this looks like a good coffee filter, but the thing is too narrow, falls into my cup. I'm gonna have to do like another reviewer said and use it as a strainer for coffee instead of a filter.... regardless, one way or another it'll get the job done.
This filter is super simple to use, just put coffee grounds in it, stick it in your mug, and pour boiling water in. Let it sit about 10-15 minutes, depending on how strong you like your coffee, and ta-da! Low-effort backcountry coffee. When you get to the bottom there's some coffee ground sludge, but that's to be expected. Tastes a bit different than when it's made at home with a percolator, but that's also to be expected. With how easy it was, I was totally satisfied.
My husband and I enjoy having coffee while camping. It's easy to use and fits perfectly into my SnowPeak 450 mug without falling in. Steep the coffee about 4-5 minutes and it's great.
I used this on a multi-day backpacking trip into the SE Utah desert. It packed well in my backpack (flexible) and it seemed to be able to take a crushing without any damage. The screen is micro enough that I didn't get any coffee grains in my brew. I placed two TBSP of grounds into it and set it into my mug, with the wings resting perfectly on the edges of the mug, then poured the hot water into the mug thru the filter until full. Covered the filter with the little cap included and let er rest for a few minutes. Pulled the filter out and had a perfect cup of coffee. No messy paper filters, just grounds that I left out to dry during the day and then put into my trash later. All my friends loved it and I ended up making coffee for all of them over the subsequent days since this filter was so easy and quick to use. The only thing I can think of that would improve this filter is if the little black cap was somehow attached to the filter itself, this would create less of a chance of loosing the cap. I will probably rig it somehow with some kind of leash. Overall, I was very satisfied with this filter and will be using this for many years to come.
