MSR Deep Dish Plate

No matter what’s on the menu, bust out the MSR Deep Dish Plate and scoop yourself a heaping portion. This high-sided plate accommodates everything from cereal to a steak, and the lightweight, non-leaching polypropylene design nests neatly inside your MSR cookset.

Bottom Line: Wide like a plate, deep like a bowl.

Nice plate for car camping

Kind of heavy for backpacking, but for car camping, good stuff. Plenty big enough for a hearty meal and stows well with one plate.

could be better

By:

I expected better design coming from MSR.

One plate nests inside (or outside, depending on pot/plate size) pots just fine. However, this is possible with only one single plate. Plates of the same size have straight walls that are not tapered at the bottom, making it impossible to stack multiple plates inside each other. Maybe MSR will get it right with the next version...

Plate material is durable enough.

Plate works great as a bowl or plate, eliminating the need to carry both.

4 stars on material/durability.
2 stars on shortsighted design.

Large version

This thing works great. Big enough for any meal and the high sides mean you can squirm around to get comfortable when sitting on the ground without spilling. It nests with my GSI frypan nicely too. Works as a lid for the frypan as well, though the bottom of the plate says its rated to only 220F so I only used it while it was heating up, not once it was close to up to temp. A higher temp rating and this would get a full five stars.
