MSR Alpine Folding Utensils

MSR's lightweight Alpine Folding Utensils fold in half for compact storage. Now you can take the kitchen luxuries you need on your next backpacking trip without having to worry about taking up extra space. The lightweight, compact spoon, spatula, and strainer won't scratch or ding nonstick pots and pans. The Alpine Folding Utensils are an excellent complement to the MSR Alpine Cookset.

Bottom Line: The MSR Alpine Folding Utensils make it easy to cook like a gourmet in the backcountry.

Backcountry Kitchen

By:
October 25, 2009

I picked up all three of these and they worked like a charm. They feel very durable, although I worried about the strainer breaking but no problems yet. They lock in a folding position as well as in the usable position....except the strainer. Easy to store and very easy to clean. They didn't even melt when I had them right against red-hot titanium. Really, they're a descent set of utensils for a rough kitchen.

Feels Sturdy!

Nice little spatula to add to your kitchen set. Super light and feels strong. Good for making eggs and pancakes and you can't really beat the price for something this nifty. The whole set is really useful!

I've never had any issues with the plastic becoming heat deformed or anything from cooking via frying pan on a fire or stove. I haven't tested holding it directly over a roaring open fire but I don't really see why you would be doing that anyway! Hope this helps.

Good for Cooking Eggs

By:
December 16, 2008

I never would have purchased this but got it as a gift. I laughed it off but it's a real part of my backpacking kitchen and works like a charm. Sturdy and functional. And for a couple bucks, hey, why not?

This product is great! It fits right into my MSR cook gear. Great for turning bacon, sausage and cooking eggs, scrambled or over easy. I love it.

It's Pancake Time

By:
May 30, 2009

We made some hefty pancakes with this on more than one occasion. It holds up great to high heats, cleans fast, protects nonstick cookware, and feels very reliable and strong. It is light and low profile so the weight conscious but luxury minded camper can enjoy themselves by having faith in their cook gear.

Haven't got the chance to use this yet, but it looks like it will work good. Extremely light and perfect size to pack with. Also looks surprisingly durable.

Unexpected value

By:
May 16, 2009

Good tool, as mention in other reviews, it's very handly to turn eggs (thin flat part). I used it frequently at home when my regular one is dirty. Because I dont use plastic ustensils this prevent me from scratching my t-fal cookware. Don't get the whole set as the big spoon is useless and the use strainer may be somehow hazardous.

Melted on first use

By:
September 8, 2009

The first time I used the spatula to make pancakes in the BWCAW the front edge quickly melted. I was using it over a stove, so maybe the pan was hotter than expected. I was disappointed.

Love the Spat

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I don't know about the other items listed because I haven't bought them yet (but I plan to). The spatula is great. It is so light weight but is amazingly durable. I wanted a lightweight spatula for backpacking but was concerned that I would have carried the thing just to have it break the first time I used it. When I got it in my hands I was impressed. It will do anything you need a spatula to do in the backcountry. Very well designed and built. Fits in my GSI hard anodized cook set.
