Montane Atomic DT Jacket - Men's

Just because the Montane Men’s Atomic DT Jacket is lightweight and takes up less room than a grapefruit in your pack doesn’t mean that it’s light on features. Montane designed this rain jacket for warmer, wet conditions, which means it breathes as well as it fends off precipitation so you stay comfortable while exerting. But if the humidity gets to you during your summer hike on the Olympic Peninsula, just open the two mesh-backed chest pockets to vent. A helmet-compatible hood has you covered should the light drizzle turn torrential in the middle of sending a climbing route. A two-way front zipper, droptail, and athletic cut ensure full coverage and mobility while you play in the backcountry.

  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US distributor for Montane products

Bottom Line: Go light without having to give up pockets and zippers.

Does its job

Overall a very nice rain shell. It is the lightest jacket I have ever owned, but the material is surprisingly sturdy and does not feel as though it would tear. Rain has yet to soak through this on trips and while biking. My favorite part about this jacket is its slim athletic fit. I am 6' 150lbs and it fits so much better than another rain shell I have tried. The arms are extra long so they can seal over gloves quite nicely. However, I have a few complaints. First, the "Entrant-DT" started peeling off the second day after opening the package! Needless to say, it made me second guess the quality. Second, the sew stitching started coming unraveled on the non-abrasive neck guard near the collar part of the zipper. Third, the hood is so light it seems to never stay up without holding it up with your hand--any wind whatsoever will blow the hood down it seems. I do understand sacrifices must be made for weight in this case. Overall, I would defiantly recommended this product as its defaults are very minor and I like this better than my Mountain Hardware rainshell and North Face rainshell because of the fit and weight.

Thanks Mom, I love it!

I got this jacket as a birthday gift from my mom. I used it on my last trip to the Black Forest of Pa. It rained 2 out of the 4 1/2 days we hiked. This is my first breathable rain jacket, and it really works! And it work better then I thought. I have had waterproof jackets and just put up with the sweet, but never again. It is also super light and packs down to almost nothing. Well worth the money. Or if you have a great Mom like me, makes a great gift! Thanks Mom!

are the chest pockets and chest vent zips different things, or

are the chest pockets and chest vent zips different things, or are they saying the same feature has two different functions? I want a jacket with decent pockets ....

Got this jacket three weeks ago to keep in my bag whenever im outside just in case a storm shows up. Packs super small, weighs almost nothing, and fits into included carrying bag with a little folding. Completely waterproof when ive used it biking in light rain and still breathes well. Athletic fit and sleeves plenty long enough to cover wrists where gloves meet and then some. All in all a superb jacket that i dont leave the house without.

Caught out in very bad weather

I bought the Atomic Jacket just before a two week summer holiday to the west coast of Scotland as I intended to spend as much time as possible in the mountains. The summer in Scotland isn’t what I called reliable so a good waterproof jacket is essential but I didn’t want to carry excess weight or bulk. This seemed to fit the bill. It is surprising how light the jacket it considering the features: Big hood with a stiffened peak, 2 huge hand pockets, great arm lift, and a double storm flap normally found on much heavier jackets designed for winter use. To be honest the jacket only really got tested on one day but at nearly 1000m above sea level descending the rocky crest off Sgurr Mhor, brilliantly named Na Rathanan (the Horns of Alligin). We could see the thick band of rain heading our way off the sea. My girlfriend had her much more expensive Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket and pants on before it hit and I donned my latest purchase along with my waterproof pants. The rain was incredibly heavy and the wind that brought it our way made climbing down rocky ground difficult. I was half expecting to get wet as the Atomic is more than half the price of my 3-layer shell but I was presently surprised and we battled for 3hrs back to the car. It is always nice to finally get to use something in anger and for it to exceed your expectations. I have since seen plenty of people on a 2-day mountain-marathon using these, probably due to their low weight and high performance. The overnight camp seemed to be a Montane convention.
