Mountain Hardwear Hooded Compressor Jacket - Men's - 2007

Wear the Mountain Hardwear Men's Hooded Compressor Jacket for a super-light insulator on alpine assaults. This jacket packs down as small as a grapefruit and fits in the corner of your pack until you need it as an extra layer. Mountain Hardwear stuffed the Compressor with synthetic PrimaLoft One insulation, which maintains its insulating properties even when wet. The Compressor's light weight and packability make it easy to bring along on backcountry tours or wear as a mid-layer for lift skiing.

Bottom Line: The Mountain Hardwear Hooded Compressor Jacket offers the warmth of a winter sleeping bag and packs down to a sixth of the size.

OK...TO FRAGILE

By:
February 14, 2008

While definitely warmer than it looks, still not quite warm enough for use as a belay jacket. Also, very fragile. While the jacket doesn't claim to be anything but lightweight insulation, a little more durability would make it much more versatile. I brushed lightly against a door frame on my way outside, and it left a large gash in the sleeve. The jacket does look great, so it succeeds as a fashion piece. In usage, it will do best as backup insulation for backpacking or BC skiing. There are better choices for climbing.
Also, the jacket is an entirely separate piece from the Compressor Pants. The pants are more substantial and durable.

Compressor Jacket Review

By:
January 3, 2008

So far I have been thoroughly impressed with the compressor Jacket. I doubted its warming abilities when I first received the jacket. However, the prima loft one fill works great in colder weather. It is super light and comfortable. Makes a great pillow for back country camping. It is also fashionable and was even commented on by complete strangers. I also really like the fleece lined pockets, almost don't even need gloves. Only minor draw back; don't really like the locking feature for the hood draw cords.

Ultra light and warm

By:
May 21, 2008

This is a great jacket that weighs almost nothing and is very warm without overheating. It's also very water resistant.

This new model is somewhat noisier when you wear it than older compressor jackets were.

The hood is very large and needs a back strap, etc. to keep it from covering your eyes.

great lightweight jacket

highly compressible, good wind and rain resistance, straightforward and intuitive adjustment options (hood/waist/arms), pretty stylin. have worn in nyc in mid 30s weather with minimal layering and stayed warm.

great base layer

By:
May 1, 2008

this jack its suppose to be thin, its a base layer. like one used in a technical jacket. it sounds like too many people bought it and didnt do enough homework. it compares to the northface redpoint jacket, but you save yourself about $10. very happy. very comfortable. very water proof. good to ok in the windbreaker dept but remember its not a shell. it does the job better than the average base layer you would get with a technical, unless you paid premo $$$.

Not what I exactly expected

By:
January 31, 2008

When I got my Hooded Compressor Jacket, I was a little disappointed with it. It is extremely light weight and a cool design, but you can't use it for any real winter sports. It weighs nothing, and I really mean nothing. If you will use this as a lining, it will be pretty thick, but probably a very good insulator.
