Don't spend another winter huddled by the fireplace. Bundle up in the Mountain Hardwear Women's Sub Zero Parka and brave the storm. This jacket's 650-fill down will keep you content in extremely frigid conditions. Articulated arms give you an excellent range of motion to help you move whether alpine climbing, skiing, or bar-hopping in Jackson. The Sub Zero Parka's Polyester Z-Rip shell is downproof and very soft.
Bottom Line: You might as well sleep in your Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Parka.
Yes, I do feel like a Michelin man, but toasty warm. I compared this to two other synthetic jackets (REI and Marmot) and also to the sub zero jacket and TNF Nuptse. It has length, really light weight, and heated me up immediately. It could use another inside pocket (for stowing batteries and other stuff you need to keep warm at cold high elevations), but it should work well for winter mountaineering.
I currently live in Hawaii, and went on a vacation to northern Japan. I read that it was going to be about 30 or so there, so I invested in this jacket solely on the wonderful reviews. Thank god I did! I love the jacket. It is so warm and I utilized the hood and face guard every minute that I was there. It was definitely worth every penny. I am thinking of moving there, and am only wishing this company makes a full-length one. I loved the fleece lined pockets, but wished there were more on the inside as well for skiing.
I'm going to college in Massachusets this fall, and I need a good jacket. I'm from VA so this is new to me. Do you think this jacket is too heavy-duty for north-west Mass?
I bought this coat based solely on the reviews. It is indeed as amazing as everyone said. I'm one of those always cold humans and needed something ridiculously warm for snowshoeing and other outdoor activities. Synthetics don't do it for me when it's in the 20s, even when I'm working up a sweat. I knew I needed down. And this coat is perfect. Perfect. I love that it is longer than most "fashion" down coats for women. As most women know, it's almost impossible to find a great down coat with a down hood. This one is phenomenal. My ears/head stays warm when I need it to. I really can't recommend this parka enough. Nothing else I tried on, from any of the top manufacturers, came close to this one. I am a size 4 and bought the Small size. Perfect, even though the sizing charts told me I could have also worn the XS .. but this one is the perfect fit, enabling me to wear some layers under it without a problem. Great, great jacket!
I love this parka. I had almost given up on mail ordering a coat because I have a rather hard to fit body type (long arms and torso) and almost all jackets I tried came up to high at my midsection or were too short in the arms (something I can't stand). This jacket fits very nicely. It's a little bulky if you are tall and thin but I have not found a better comfortable, functional, warm jacket. I wear it everyday when I walk my dog in the early cold mornings and around town as well. Highly recommended.
I have been very pleased with this coat! It's extremely warm and the perfect length. The lining in the collar is so soft, and I like the detachable hood. It works great for snow sports, or just a cold morning commute. It's even comfortable enough to sleep in for cold-season camping. Best down coat out there!
First want to express my deep thanks to this site for being one of the best online companies I've done business with!
Bought a North Face Tamba Kosi jacket in Sept. A few weeks ago, it finally was cold enough for a down jacket. Wore it to walk my dog and for the first time in my life, I was COLD in a down jacket! I was so disappointed.
Read the reviews for this MH Sub Zero Parka and decided rather than be cold all winter, I'd bite the bullet and buy it. On the off chance they'd take back the original jacket I bought in Sept, I called the site.. No problem! They issued an RMA and offered faster shipping on the new jacket. So quick, so easy!
Three days later the MH Sub Zero came and I knew immediately it was far superior to the one I returned. Based on reviews I ordered a size up. I'd have to say this jacket is true to size because the large is too big. I'm 5' 8" about 130 lbs., often sleeves on med. are too short, but sleeves on the large are too long even for me.
Haven't received the medium yet, but already know it's going to be my favorite winter jacket.
Tip: down is very insulating. The less you wear under it, the better it works. (As long as you're "sealed" in.) No need to get a larger size for layers.
Sorry for the long review, but just had to sing the praises of this wonderful company as well as this awesome parka! Now if it would just SNOW! :/
It comes with a little bag, I can roll it up into a small little ball and stuff it in. It is great for traveling, as it is light, and packs down to practically nothing!
I loved this jacket, it is so light and very warm. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the winters here are quite cold. This jacket has been keeping me very warm even if I am not wearing other thick base layers under it. I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a nice light down winter jacket for a very reasonable price.
Very happy with this jacket! I tried on the NF Nuptse jacket and for me it was too short (I'm 5'8"). I own the TNF Nuptse vest and the shorter length is fine in a vest, but for jacket weather the extra length in the MH jacket is great. The detachable hood is nice to have too. As I haven't worn it a ton, I can't comment on it's durability but no feathers are popping through yet. Bring on the New England winter...
i wish, i wish, oh how i wish this comfy snuggle-friendly jacket fit. i usually wear a 6-8 top in women's and feel fairly safe wearing large jackets so that my wool sweaters fit underneath. however, this women's large was ginormous and i had to return what seemed to be the perfect cold weather jacket. sniff.. sniff...
Love everything about this parka! The hood, the length, the ability to seal the sleeves and bottom from the chill wind. No need to wear layers under a down jacket like this -- in fact the less you wear under it, the warmer you'll be. Sizing is true to fit. Really happy with this parka! The price and service can't be beat!
I bought this jacket as I had heard on the long range weather forecast that we in the UK are supposed to be having the coldest winter for a long while this year, so I bought the jacket both as a treat to myself and as a practical item for keeping warm. I have to say it is the softest, warmest and 'snuggliest' jacket I have ever owned, and the down filling makes it incredibly comfortable to wear! The temps here haven't dipped much yet but I wear it all the time anyway, and it has very quickly become my favourite jacket. Its superb design, features and colour combined with its fantastically squashable and packable capabilities have made it a jacket I take absolutely everywhere even if its just for comfort! It is a superbly high quality and well-made jacket that I can see lasting me for years, especially as it packs away so small (as if I could ever part with it and store it!!) Thanks for enabling us in the UK to be able to buy this great brand...I'm sure I'll be coming back for more! Cheers!
I bought this coat for wearing during a trip I'm doing this summer to Kilimanjaro. I don't intend to wear it while actually hiking, but in the evenings when hanging out at the campsite. Since its currently winter and we've had some cold days, I've worn this a lot and I absolutely love this coat! It's so warm and comfortable that I never want to take it off. It's quickly become my coat of choice even though I have several other winter coats. I love the light purple color too!
