Wish we could change our reviews... tried on a friend's jacket in a medium. I originally got a small b/c that's what I usually get in MH stuff. The medium's arms are MUCH longer than the small's. It is baggier but I will be able to layer more under it. Also, she has had hers for a while and the stiffness in the armpits is worn out and they are not bothersome at all. Going to exchange for a medium!

I just received my Epic jacket and I am returning it immediately. The description of this jacket says nothing about the construction in the armpits. Zippers extending from the elbow to mid-torso make for a very uncomfortable fit. Two other reviewers were right. Color (Crimson) was great, though!

I bought a medium crimson jacket. I bought it for field work in school and backpacking in Europe. So far its held up well. It seems a bit big in the trunk of the body, but I'm used to more form fitting ski jackets. My only other complaint would be getting the hood to stay up, it keeps falling down when I bike in the rain; this could also be to my lack of understanding of the jacket.

Honestly, the only reason I'm keeping this is because of the screamin' deal on SAC and the awesome color (vivid green). I usually hate the colors women's jackets come in, but the bright (think florescent) green is just what I was looking for. PROS: hood and brim are a good size (no helmet) & stay put; Super lightweight; packs great; passed a quick waterproof test in shower, no real world use yet. CONS: arms are short. Another poster said they fit her monkey arms, but I don't have monkey arms and they are still at least an inch too short; no storm flap on main zipper. um DUH. this is a rain jacket. the pockets have taped zippers, but the main one is just a plain ole' zipper (I'm not going to count those little strips of fabric flanking both sides of the zip. They aren't going to stop a drip off my water bottle). There IS a flap inside the zipper, but I would prefer if the rain was stopped BEFORE it entered my jacket; many people complain about the baggy armpits. They are kind of baggy. not annoyingly baggy. The annoying part is the stiff material used as storm flaps over the pit zips (MH, why do zippers in your armpits need flaps, but the one on the front of your body does not? hmmm?) I am hoping that the stiffness will just go away with use. IN ALL, its a good jacket for the price (on SAC), and is enough to hold me over until I feel like shelling out more for a better one. *sidenote, order a size down. I feel this is the case with most MH jackets.

I had high expectations coming into this jacket and they fulfilled every single one of them. So light and packable, but really cuts the wind and deflects the rain. The hood is everything I ever wanted in a hood and more. It bubbles just a little around the belly but as a Medium, it fits me darn near perfect... Great Jacket!

I bought this here because it was a great deal, as so much of their stuff is. It was exactly as described, and the red onion color was unique and really pretty. However, I ordered a size large (I'm about 5'10 and 170 pounds) and it was way too big for me! Too bad they had sold out of the medium by the time I realized this.

Sleek design while maintaining its utility. I just got back from climbing Mt kilimanjaro, and this Jacket and the pants were the few mandatory items I needed at the top of my pack. Light and packable provided all the rain protection I needed, and the pit zips were key to keeping me cool! I'm average sized and the sleeves were just the right length, it was big enough to cover 3 ayers of clothing without looking bulky.

I bought an Epic about 4 or 5 years ago. I have used it for everything from hikes and daily use to trail rides and schooling shows. The sizing is nice--the sleeves are actually long enough for my gorilla arms, and the body length is nice.
Mine is the old Smoke Purple. It has held up pretty well. It can get a tiny bit clammy when I work really hard, but its not bad as far as the older stuff. The one thing to know is that after my long use, the waterproofing coating has started to peel off in chunks around the collar.

I bought this jacket when it was on steep and cheap and got a great deal on it. The sizing was a bit weird though compared to other mountain hardwear jackets I've bought and I to exchange it for a smaller size. Otherwise though, it fits great and is light and compactable. I recently wore it in North Carolina on a rainy camping trip and it held up okay. I think it's better for lighter rain scenarios. Overall though I am happy with it.

Nice jacket. Shovelled snow in -11 F in this jacket and a shell made out of Entrant. Completed soaked the inside of my Entrant jacket but the Epic stayed dry. Cross country skied in it with no problems. The arms are a bit long but I like them that way. Medium fitted the way I wanted, I'm 5'6" and 145lbs. Lots of space under the armpits. Enough room for a fleece layer. Defintely recommend.

OK, I don't need a rainjacket for extreme outdoor exertion. I just need one that is comfortable, performs well, and looks good while I travel all over Europe next month. After spending the last week in rainy windy Chicago with out of town guests this week, I can tell I have exactly the right jacket! Perfect!

I usually really enjoy using Mountain Hardware gear...and clothing...
But.. My Epic jacket is not waterproof AT ALL!!! I have given the jacket the benefit of the doubt and used it numerous times in rainy and snowy elements...and EVERY time I am glad I have a fleece on underneath it-because it is SOAKED on the INSIDE!!!
Wow...I thought this rain jacket would really work well...guess not.
I will NEVER buy this brand of raingear again.

As a rain jacket, this one did not work for me at all. I have worn it multiple times with a fleece underneath, and every time the fleece has been completely soaked on the inside. Its been very disappointing. The fit is fine for me, and it is decent as a windbreaker, keeps out the chill. I would not recommend it though.

A great jacket for anything from trips to the supermarket to backpacking through Europe. Lightweight yet cozy, the Epic Jacket keeps all the moisture out without feeling like you're wearing a plastic tarp. Arm pocket is handy, especially if you lose things often or want to keep something super safe. Very packable even though it doesn't fold into itself.

I just got my new rain shell for biking and horseback riding. I really like the red color and how small it can pack (folds up to fit in my CamelBak perfectly). Keeps me dry and cool on the inside. The only thing I would advise is that it seems to run big. I ordered a size 6 Mountain Hardwear soft shell this winter, and it fit perfectly, but I'm sort of swimming in the medium of this jacket. It's nice to be able to layer, but I could fit about four of my boyfriend's fleeces under this. Otherwise a great product though. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to stay dry inside and out (and not spend a boat load).

This jacket fits soo well. The sleeves are the perfect length ( a little long, but that's good! ) I'm 5'7" and weight 120 pounds and the small fit perfectly. The hood really covers your head, even when you are wearing a pony tail ( I find some jackets' hoods keep coming off when you wear your hair up ) And the fit and the color are awesome. I HIGHLY recommend this jacket. I just got it, so I have yet to wear it in the rain so I cannot comment on that.

i got this for my girl because i'm trying to go camping with her. she didn't have the appropriate clothes. she wears this jacket everyday. it's become her favorite.

This is a great rain jacket. It keeps moisture out perfectly and keeps you semi-warm at the same time.

keeps me dry and actually pretty warm which is great where i live, but the pit zips allow for cooling...i got a medium for layering, but if that's not something you need to worry about try a smaller size than usual because with no layers this fits like a large.
i'm out in the field a lot for school and work, and so far it's been very rain PROOF!
my roommate borrowed it and now she's getting one.

It's great! i also can wear this over my hydration pack without any tugs when it's pouring. got the vivid green easy to spot me very far when i am hiking especially late in the evening and easy to roll up to tuck it away.
