Mountain Hardwear Compressor PL Jacket - Men's - 2007

The Mountain Hardwear Men's Compressor PL Jacket is a super-light insulator for high-alpine assaults. It packs down in a small stuff sack and fits in the corner of your pack until you need it as an extra layer. Mountain Hardwear stuffed it with synthetic PrimaLoft One insulation, which maintains its insulating properties even when wet. Beyond climbing, the Compressor's light weight and packability make it easy to bring on backcountry tours or even as a mid-layer for lift skiing.

Bottom Line: A superlight jacket that shrugs off wet weather.

Great Jacket

By:
January 28, 2008

This is the perfect mid layer for all wintertime activities. It compresses small in a pack for a just in case layer, but also great for layering during the day and into the night if needed!

Compressor PL - Awesome!

By:
July 24, 2007

We recently purchased several Mountain Hardware Compressor PL's to take on an upcoming Boy Scout trip to Alaska. They were great!!! - very compressible and warm. Temperatures we experienced were in the upper 30's to low 40's at night with just a thin base layer under. Even when we had windy conditions they stayed warm and fairly wind proof. We really appreciated the weight of only 16 oz. too. It would be nice if they had a hood that could roll up into the collar to help keep your neck and head warm without a hat. I know they make other jackets that do have hoods but are more than double the weight. It is still a great jacket; we even had one of our scouts buy one after they got back from our trip they liked them so well!

Packable Puff

Tale of woe: I gave this Jacket away. Advice: Don't do what I did.

This jacket is awesomely warm. The primaloft insulates amazingly well for how nonbulky it is. The 15 denier ripstop nylon holds up extremely well for how thin it feels. I got caught on a couple trees and never had a hole form. The best thing about this jacket is that you can cram it down in your pack and it takes up like 0 space. It's great. Do it.

This jacket is great

By:
November 29, 2006

I've only worn it around town, and it's been great. I suspect it will be plenty warm for many (Sierra) backcountry trips as well. We'll see.

Outstanding Jacket

By:
November 13, 2007

This is a fantastic jacket. I bought it for my trip to Norway, wore it everyday, and could not be more satisfied. I would recommend it to anyone; the warmth to weight (and size) is excellent and it packs small as well. The only thing I did not really get to test was water resistance.

I am impressed

By:
February 23, 2006

This jacket is great, it fits very well underneath my Arc'teryx shell and it keeps me very warm. I give off a lot of body heat so this jacket is a great replacement for a large down jacket. It's not as compressible as a down jacket so I just have to make a little extra room when I go touring. Overall, I’m very impressed and would definitely recommend this jacket to anyone.

Compressor PL Jacket

By:
January 26, 2006

The Compressor PL Jacket is an excellent insulating layer: well-constructed, lightweight, aesthetically pleasing. It clearly is not as warm as down, but its minimal bulk (nice for layering under a hardshell) and "packablity" make it a reasonable alternative. The jacket is typical of Mountain Hardwear products—superior in design and quality.

Comfy but shiny

By:
December 19, 2006

Great jacket very comfortable. I originally purchased it as insulation for skiing on really cold days. The material is a little too shiny for my liking but I'll get over it

Best Jacket out there!

By:
June 19, 2006

This jacket is one of the greatest jackets ever made. I bought one for my husband for Christmas. We live in a Minnesota and it was a little light for the below zero temps, but my husband wore it anyway. I kept borrowing it so often that I bought one too. Then we bought one for my dad. My dad uses his for his weeklong Canadian fishing trips. It is super lightweight and keeps you warm like you're in a sleeping bag. I wore mine all through the spring for outdoor jaunts with the dog. My husband has worn it for hockey, broomball, etc. The only drawback is that it doesn't have any pitzips for super sweaty sports like hockey. I've used it skiing as well, for days that are a little warmer.

Fantastic!!!

By:
November 29, 2006

This jacket is the warmest and lightest jacket I've ever owned! It is well made and thought out. The double sided zipper on the right hand pocket allows you to stuff the jacket into the pocket and zip it up. No need for a stuff sack.

Compressor PL Jacket...The best

By:
April 6, 2006

Mountain Hardwear has done it again. The compressor PL jacket is the best top layer or under layer for a ski day. Packs down into the smallest pocket of my backpack and is not a bulky under layer. The weight and size keep you warm on the coldest windiest wildest ski days while hitting up Vail's Back Bowls. Doesn’t absorb to much odor and breaths. Love this jacket.

warm huh

I'd buy it again, it was a toss up between the Outdoor Research Neoplume jacket but I decided to go with this one because it seemed to fit better and a little more cut to my shape. The fabric is kind of loud if that is an issue for you. I got it to fit under my shells and an extra layer to throw on during ski tours. It packs down to be a little bigger than a Nalgene into one of its own pockets, look for the one with the double zipper. BUT.. With teeth and two hands I will say that it is impossible to zip it up to have it completely contained in its on pocket. Fleece pockets are like little ovens I have noticed. I like.

Good jacket

By:
February 18, 2008

This jacket is ideal for when you don't want to get a thin down jacket because you're afraid it will get a little wet and the down will be useless. I use this jacket around town on chilly evenings when it's not raining hard and I love it. I also take it when I go mountain biking and it's raining as it doesn't matter what you do - your mid layer will get damp in places. As a backpacking warmup jacket (for camp, not actually backpacking) I recommend down instead purely because a slightly lighter down jacket (800 fill or more) will be significantly warmer than this jacket. Check out the Patagonia Down Sweater (not "Jacket") for the ultimate in lightweight, compressible, make-me-warm technology.

Light weight, but very small

By:
May 5, 2008

The size runs small. The coat I received was too small and I returned it. It was the size I normally wear, but I could not zip it up. I did not get a chance to test it further.
