Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket - Women's - 2006
The Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket surrounds you with 650-fill down for the coldest possible conditions this winter, and is cut specifically to fit the female form. Mountain Hardwear's most popular down jacket, the Sub Zero SL is cloaked in Conduit SL—the company's proprietary water resistant, breathable fabric, allowing you to wear the Sub Zero SL skiing in drier climates and cruising around town while those fat flakes pile up. A little moisture poses no problem for this sweet jacket. The seams in the baffles are not sewn-through, much like a high-quality sleeping bag. This means there is no true separation of the insulation at the seams, so you stay warmer and more comfortable, without the cold spots common in sewn-through down garments. The hood is detachable, and the fleece-lined collar and hand pockets keep you extra comfortable. An interior mesh water-bottle pocket is super handy for backcountry excursions, and of course, Mountain Hardwear's quality is legendary—there are few companies that match their excellence.
Bottom Line: From town to the backcountry, down is the call for ultimate warmth.
This jacket was really warm but sizing ran too small. Why can't someone make a down coat that goes down past your waist? I returned the coat and will wait for someone to come out with a longer down coat.
I have gotten the most bang for my buck with this coat. It is so warm and fits perfectly. The hood is something all winter outdoors men and women need on those windy days. The womens sizes run smaller than would be expected so order a size up ladies.
Love this coat--I wore it on a bouldering trip & then around town in the super-cold & I was wonderfully toasty. I had purchased this coat & the Marmot hooded poofy coat. This one packed much smaller and weighed signif. less. On the other hand, it has a 'thinner' material than the Marmot one. I liked the pockets inside of it (which the Marmot one lacked). It is super-poofy, with my coworkers calling me a space-chick, but at least I'm a warm space-chick.
First, French Blue is a gorgeous periwinkle color-you can't tell from the website. I wanted a baffled, lightweight down jacket that looked good, came in a nice color, and was very compressible. It was hard to find, but this is it, with added hood and water-resistance too! This jacket is well-designed. The zipper on the collar is hidden when you zip off the hood. It has useful inner (one mesh, one zip) pockets and hand warmer (lined and zipped) pockets. Theres heavier fabric on wear-areas (shoulders, outer arms). Its very warm and lightweight. I use it solo and as extra layer while backcountry skiing. It compresses nicely in its stuff sack, and is roomy enough to fit over my hiking clothing/shell if necessary. Slightly longer than the Marmot and Patagonia down jackets I tried (a good thing). My only complaints: VELCRO® on front zipper-flap and hood is black (they could've matched the blue fabric) and the arm length could be a little longer. Overall, the jacket filled all my requirements and Im very pleased.
Excellent design, hood will go over a helmet and front flap closure covers lower face. Very lightweight and comfortable to wear. Very good service and a good price from BackCountry. Thanks!
