nice kit more jugs

By:

This is a great kit to begin building a wall, it would be better with more jugs for the ceiling, crawling aroung like spiderman upside down is the best part of a good wall !

Great value for money

Very nice selection of basic holds. All of the larger holds are definitely designed for use at more than one angle. Only enough T-Nuts for the holds, therefore if this is for a starter set, you will need to purchase many more T-Nuts

getting started

By:

I found the Metolius Mega Pack Holds 40 count to be perfect for just starting my home bouldering wall. I figured start small and then I can add. This is just perfect.

Great for starting your own wall

The 50 piece mega pack has a good mix of different style holds from good size roof jugs to tiny foot jibs. It could use a few more slopers and pinches and less crimpers; but overall it has everything you need to start bouldering right away. I am very happy with the product.

A Good Deal, but a great deal different from the picture

By:

I love Metolius holds, and these holds were certainly a good deal. However, when I opened the box, I felt a bit like you would if you had ordered a Big Mac having only seen the picture.

While I received everything listed, they certainly didn't compare to what was pictured. The "roof jugs" were tiny and the rail they included was the smallest one they offer. I wouldn't have minded a couple shortcomings if they were balanced by a gem or two. But, alas, there were no gems to be found. And for the time being, my roof is jug less.

50 is just right

By:

With the 40 pack you don't get the number of roof jugs. With 60 you get mostly more screw-ons. With 50 you have a perfect base climbing wall. Just a couple misc notes: You will always need more holds. I already bought a set of 5 roof jugs. I suspect I'll by more holds a few at a time forever. You need to buy more T nuts if you are starting from scratch. They only include enough T-nuts to mount the holds it comes with, and you'll need a lot more in a piece of plywood. The instructions say ACX plywood. They should elaborate and say for indoor use any AC, AB, or AA plywood will be fine. Just don't get any BC or lower as it will have voids that your holds may pull through. If you go into Home Depot or the like and ask for ACX plywood nobody will know what you are talking about, tell them AC or AB. Climbing outdoors is still superior. Use a climbing wall for training when you can't go outside (i.e. you live in Florida 10 hours from any walls or it is raining/snowing)

Great start to our wall.

By:
January 12, 2007

We purchased the 50 pack as a start of a new wall we are building in our pole barn. The wall is 8' wide by 16' tall.
The 50 pack has provided a very good coverage for the size of the wall. We ordered 100 extra t-nuts to provide more flexibility. Overall, the 50 pack is a very good value.

Metolius hold sets - 60 pack

By:
June 7, 2006

I just received the Mega pack hold set for a home climbing wall in the backyard. The 60 hold mega pack was perfect for the 20' wall. A good arraignment of different size holds. If you are hesitant to spend the extra on the big set, don't be. The 60 is definitely the best deal. The extra holds in the 60 pack includes a significant increase of large and medium size holds over the other sets. Only two small complaints. Screw-in holds tend to be fragile and can be over tightened and broken easily, so be careful. I also read in another review before my purchase regarding the limited amount of T-nuts included in the 60 pack. The kit only includes enough T-nuts enough for the holds included. Spend the extra cash and order an extra bag. You'll be much happier in the end. Great set, I wouldn't buy anything smaller. If I decide to add-on, I will buy the 60 pack again.
