Marmot made the Mountain Down Jacket with the same warmth-retaining features used in high-end cozy sleeping bag. Designed for mobile use, the Mountain Down takes on a day of skiing, mountaineering, or ice climbing with equal ease. Its 650-fill down insulation keeps you toasty, and a down draft tube keeps warmth from escaping. Three inches longer than earlier models, this Marmot jacket offers tons of coverage. A detachable hood and waterproof, breathable MemBrain fabric make the Down impervious to the elements.
Bottom Line: Get some extra insulation for the mountains with the Marmot Mountain Down Jacket.
Loved this jacket so much,I bought another one for a gift.In my previous review, forgot to say I bought a large size.I have now had the cold weather to test it out.Was -25C the other night with a w/c of -33C.Wore it while walking to work(25 mins).I was very warm and hardly noticed the wind with the hood up.Awesome!
I love this jacket, and every other Marmot products I own, they do no dissapoint! I planned on buying it just for those extra cold days snowshoeing and winter camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This jacket has made its way into my everyday coat! I never feel i get to hot or to cold, great for -20 and 40 degree days, with just a T shirt underneath. size/length is great!(i got a M, im 5'11, 160ish) and biggest/best hood ever! My ONE and only complaint, the arms are lacking adequate insulation, maybe its just mine? BUY IT
I have never bought a coat online before.I am very impressed with this jacket.I was looking for a down fill that would withstand really cold temps. Some friends at work told me of this site and this is where I found this coat.First of all,I ordered the stellar/tempest colour.I was not too sure about this colour. However,it is darker than the picture suggests. It is closer to a royal blue and the patches are very dark.I am 5'11" and it comes down far enough to cover my butt. This is what I was hoping for as I wanted to get something that would be more like a parka than a bomber style.I live in the Canadian prairies and it gets bitter cold here in the winter.I wanted a jacket that would do me in temps of -20C to -30C.It figures that when I received the coat,it was rather mild here. However,I did use it on a couple of nights when it was -18C with a windchill of -25C.It worked great!!!! I was very warm and the hood kept me very warm as well. Also the hood comes forward a fair bit so that the wind was kept at bay! I am so looking forward to a -25C day so I can really test it out.I also like the snap skirt on the inside. While it might have been nicer to have a couple of more pockets,it still has 4 which is more than adequate.I highly recommend this coat to anyone looking for a lightweight that really keeps the cold temps out!
This is a great jacket. It is so warm and comfortable that I feel like I am under my down comforter in bed every time I put it on. I am very happy that I bought this.
I recently bought this jacket to commute to work on my scooter. Temps in the winter here can range from mid teens to mid thirties in the morning, and I have yet to be cold! The jacket is extremely well constructed - wind proof and just the right amount of "puff". Hood is a great feature as well. I highly recommend!!
I used the jacket climbing Shasta's West Face. Wore it in the evening, for an alpine start, climbing stops and at the summit. The jacket is warm, comfortable and wind proof. Great Jacket!
Extremely light weight (I got a large). It feels like a super comfortable down sleeping bag. The hood closes nicely with plenty of space to see out and it doesnt pull on my head even when drawn tight. The length, Im 6'2" and it hits me just past my hips. Its a cross breed between a jacket and parka which is awesome. One of my favorite features is an internal snap seal skirt (sort of like a kayak skirt) which can be snapped around your waist inside the jacket so you dont have to pull the draw strings shut on the bottom to keep the cold air out (though of course you can if you want...). It fits really well all the way through especially with active movement. I put a pack on and it still feels great with lots of freedom. The re-enforced elbows and shoulders feel like Teflon but more flexible. Lastly, it looks really cool (I got the blue which is a bit darker than the picture presents).
Packed with great features and more down than some sleeping bags this is the best alpine winter jacket I have owned. It will keep you warm no matter what.
I would have wrote earlier but it doesn't get that cold in New York until about this time. Anyway, I bought this jacket for my younger brothe, and he loves it. This morning was the coldest morning yet. It was a nice 12F (cold for us Ny'ers) but that was no problem for this baby. It was only worn with a t-shirt and still toasty. My brother told me, I love this jacket! Guess no more layering for him. Pick this one up absolutely worth it!
This is a nice, basic, functional down jacket, no frills. Seems R&D rushed a little, it has a mass-market feel. The plastic zipper takes tweaking to start, but great workmanship in the jacket construction itself. The handwarmer pockets are faced with just the nylon lining, so they "aren't warm" on the inside. I would have liked the cargo-on-top-of handwarmer pocket configuration. Its cut large, as if for urban market; this means the jacket pouches out quite a bit when leaning forward or sitting. Perhaps cut to be worn open? The inside chest pocket runs to side seam, same with outside pocket. All pockets have one side that is just one layer of nylon. Nice workmanship, bright fresh color, blue anyway, and all the basic details, neck, hood, drawstring hem (none at waist, it isn't a parka)all the basic details there and adequately functional to make this a fresh serviceable coat to for walking the dog.
During this holiday season, I spent quite a while online searching for a high-end down jacket that was long enough. I also checked out local stores in the Boston area, but not had what I was looking for. My husband is very particular about quality and also wanted this to be closer to parka length. He absolutely loves this jacket, and has mentioned it to me several times. The reviews really helped. This coat is toasty warm in the coldest weather, light, not too bulky, attractive, and very well made. Do not hesitate to purchase this jacket for yourself or as a gift!
