Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's - 2006

The Marmot Men's Oracle Jacket received an Editors' Choice Award from Backpacker Magazine for best 3-season lightweight rainwear on the market. This is simply one of the most affordable, lightweight, waterproof jackets available. Marmot designed the Oracle for guys who like to layer up underneath. Micro-stitching and fully taped seams provide the performance of any top-of-the-line shell, but at a lighter weight. This piece offers the superb waterproofing of Marmot's immensely popular PreCip Jacket, but it fits and breathes better, while stretch fabric in key areas allows for more mobility.

Bottom Line: You won't find a better multi-purpose, weatherproof shell for this price.

It sheds, it breathes, it doesn't overheat!

By:
May 30, 2007

As a man who sweats at the drop of a hat, I have long searched for a rain jacket that breathes and adds minimally to my temperature. Three days ago, I had occasion to hike in my new Oracle for seven hours of constant rain ranging from drizzle to downpours. The temperature began at a pleasant 68, and quickly moved to 84. The Oracle never gave me that clammy feeling at the neck and chest that even the best of its predecessors did. The vents and pockets proved useful and just where they needed to be. My only concern is that the sizing is a bit small in the chest, and Marmot seems to think our arms are about an inch longer than reality. In all, this is my best rain gear by far!

Waterproof, lightweight, plenty of pockets, good fit, breathable, and a hood that zips into the collar. This jacket has it all. I highly recommend it.

Hail the Oracle!

This shell was just what I wanted. It’s waterproof, it breathes, and it has lots of pockets. It’s very light, it fits well, and it looks cool. I love the hood that zips into the collar when not in use. Definitely worth the price!

What a sweet little jacket!

Nasty color choices, but for high performance and packability, this is a beaut. Relatively quiet fabric (greatly appreciated on those long solo walks), nice ventilation, tailored fit, and super lightweight, this is a very fine jacket. The hood tucks neatly into the collar and the jacket itself packs ridiculously small for a fully weatherproof and breathable shell. Brilliant.

upgrade to Marmot Oracle

By:
May 23, 2005

I originally purchased the LT Hurricane by Sierra Design. While it certainly was affordable and waterproof I didn't think it was breathable enough so I traded it in for the Marmot Oracle. I found it to be everything I needed in a jacket. You can wear it to any function and it isn't merely a trail jacket, although it has performed well for me on many hikes. I like the tuck-away hood and the slight brim on the hood. I also liked the fact that it covered my rear end better than the LT Hurricane. If you can afford a couple extra bucks, this is a great jacket.

All around good pic

I bought this jacket for my dad, who is a big boater and he loves it. He says it's comfortable and very weatherproof. Also, it packs down pretty well to stick in a bag or compartment on the boat.

Excellent jacket

By:
March 23, 2007

I have either the 2005 or 2006 version, and I know the 2007 has one upgrade in particular which is fuzzy lining around the collar and I think the sleeves.

There are probably dozens of jackets on the market that are similar, but I chose this one because it was well priced, and few jackets have a tuck-away hood like the Oracle. I've always liked this feature because there's not point in putting a hood on that's already filled up with water.

The light weight and breathability are, as advertised, very good.

I have definitely been in very wet conditions while wearing this jacket (most notably a rainy week in Alaska on a cruise) and it performed very well.

Great Jacket

By:
June 12, 2006

I was very impressed with this jacket. It looks great and fits very well. It is very thin and is very lightweight. This means I usually wear it with at least a long-sleeve T-shirt underneath for warmth and comfort. I was also very pleased with the hood which fits well when deployed and doesn't look stupid like too many jacket hoods do.

The oracle rocks!!!

By:

This jacket is really versatile. It's so light weight and packable that it has accompanied me through many an adventure: backpacking, backcountry skiing, climbing, traveling. It is really a bomber piece of gear. Huge pit zips and the Precip material make it very breathable. Plenty of pocket space as well. Not to mention that I have never had a drop of water get in. Highly recommended!

red marmot

bought it for a rainy week in Amsterdam to replace my former raincoat. looks great and keeps me dry as can be. plenty of pockets w/ zippers for keeping stuff secure. cut is pretty nice and the jacket is practically stylish. breathable w/ zippered vents for even further breathability. only beef is that my legs sometimes get soaked - but probably just need to get rainpants for extra wet days.

Love the jacket

By:
September 8, 2006

The Oracle jacket has fantastic water proofing at 45 psi or 25-30,000 gr/m and good breathability 15,000 gr/m. I bought mine for training rides on my bike in the rain, backpacking, general rain jacket. It fits like a glove, and I like the roll up hood to get it out the way for bike rides. Also appreciate the large pit zips for ventilation. I highly recommend this jacket.

Great Jacket

This jacket is awesome. Just got it today and wore it on a 3 mile trail run in horrible weather. The rain never stopped. The jacket is extemely breathable and I never got that clammy feeling. The pit zips worked great and the hood is nice. the jacket moved well with a pack. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. I will be taking it with me to Patagonia in Jan. 07 !

saves lives

By:
September 22, 2005

I decided to study abroad this semester and chose Chile. I found out that Chile has one of the wettest climates outside of the rainforest. I purchased a rain jacket that I could use while I was hiking in the Andes and in the island of Chiloé in the south. I would just like to express my serious thanks for making your jacket so well.
It honestly could have saved my life when I actually realized how much it really does rain in a temperate rainforest. It kept me dry, warm, and very well ventilated. As well as those things, it also served as a great wind breaker when I was walking down the beach on the Pacific Ocean with winds up to 30-40mph. I like to let people know when they have helped me, so please know that. In the future I will definitely recommend Marmot products to my friends or family.
Thank You
