The Marmot Swallow Tent is a versatile and spacious 3-season extended use, 2-person tent that can be adapted to nearly any outdoor environment. With a revamped design the Swallow can withstand some wind and snow, making it the perfect tent for most outdoor enthusiasts. The new Knees pole system creates more elbow room inside to keep you and yours from constantly bumping into each other. Add to that an improved fly that sheds moisture and increases warmth within the tent, and you won't care what the weather forecast is. In fair weather you can open the large ceiling vent and adjustable airflow ventilators to keep the tent cool. The large vestibule converts to an awning for luxurious outside dining. All of these improvements come in at 18 ounces lighter than last year's Swallow.
Bottom Line: The Marmot Swallow Tent works great for summer climbing and spring or fall backpacking trips.
This weekend put the tent to the test. It passed with flying colors. Easy and quick to set up. A queen size air mattress fit in perfectly. Loved all the venting. A great night under the stars. IF my wife would quit snoring life would be perfect. Otherwise I'll be ordering her her own swallow tent. Ha
After humming and hawing and researching i bought the swallow. Thank goodness! Yes, it's a bit heavy, but if you split carrying the tent with another person makes it very do-able. We camped north of Denali in some wicked conditions. Ripping wind that made me question if the thin fly would hold, and some frigid temps that made me wonder if the fabric would rip (especially the plastic windows!). This tent is darn near bomb proof as far as I can tell! It held up like a champ. The front vestibule is very large and easy access. The windows all zip out enabling you to control the inside climate with amazing precision, the back door and vestibule are more than adequate. The set up is easy, and is is way roomy for 2 people. Perfect if you are like me and bring your dog everywhere! I highly recommend this tent. It is definitely worth the weight!
I climbed Victoria's (Australia) highest mountain last week (Mt.Bogong), and camped overnight on the Summit. During the night, some serious winds rolled in which were battering all the tents in our group. The Marmot stood up to the test fantastically - whereas others were losing flys and almost blowing away. The design of the tent meant that it bended down towards the ground in high winds rather than try and take off! Huge for two people (the way I like it), and although heavy for a two person tent, splitting the body and fly makes the weight acceptable. Love it that you can zip the windows from the inside (when it also started raining), and that there are windows on the fly (to see the stars!)- although these windows could have been bigger. Ventalation was great. Worked fantastically with the ground sheet and loft. I felt safe inside, even though there were 80km/h winds outside! Grab yourself a Swallow!
The Swallow, although very compact and lightweight is big enough for 3 maybe 4 people if you push it. The double doors make it way convenient for 2 person camping. This year, Marmot has gone even farther by reducing the weight of the tent by almost 2 pounds. I love it!
The Swallow has plenty of room for a 2-Person tent - my dad (6'3", 260 lb+) and I (6'2", 230lb) never "snuggled" on our trip to the Smokies and there was plenty of room left over inside the tent for my photo gear and extra clothes. The venting is fantastic, and everything inside was dry to the touch even after an entire night (and morning) of rain. Much better ventilation and dryness than my other North Face tent, plus it's light and packs small for its true size. A real winner.
I have camped in my Marmot Swallow numerous times. From near 100 degree heat to near zero degree cold, in sun and in rain. I have to say this is a superb tent. With all of the venting in the tent, I get almost 0 condensation in freezing weather. With the rain, I never get a drop in the tent, and in the heat, I take the rain-fly off, open up all of the doors and vents and it is as cool as can be. Add to that, it is very roomy and easy to set up. It's a tad on the heavy side, but I backpack with it and will very gladly accept the couple of extra lbs. for the versatility and reliabilty that it provides for varying conditions. I highly recommend!
The names for tents are backwards. A four season tent is really only good for one season, winter. Who wants to roast in a single wall tent during July? The Marmot Swallow combines the best of both worlds. You get a nice three-season tent and bombproof four-season tent in one. I really like the ability to seal the windows from inside the tent. 90% of the time I do not use the rain fly. If weather moves in overnight you can seal up the Swallow without leaving your tent.
