The Marmot DriClime Vest will be your staple layer from early spring through the summer. The wind-resistant DriClime front keeps you from getting a chilled core, while the breathable back panel keeps you from overheating. Perfect as a light bottom layer for spring tours, or as an outer shell for early morning runs, the DriClime Vest weighs just 8oz, and packs small when temps rise.
Bottom Line: The DriClime Vest makes the perfect wind-blocking layer for cool to warm conditions.
I wore the vest over long underwear while spring skiing -- it kept me very warm! I also loved the fact that a trail map fits perfectly in the chest pocket -- I just wish the pocket was waterproof to keep the map dry! All in all, very comfortable and lightweight -- very glad that I bought this vest.
Does your layering system need a little help in the core? If you are really, really active, windproofing with high breathability on the core is very feasible. If you are not so active, wind shirts and vests, when used as a mid-layer system have been proven to work much better than comparable weight fleece layers as insulators due to the still breathing sub-climate contained by the wind shell. THAT is cutting edge wind shirt use folks, and the BEST use of this vest.
Just purchased and worn a few times. Can not comment on durability. Purchased for use w/ Gore-tex XCR shell and fleece jacket insert. I find that XCR is quite breezy and my back gets cold. However, I'm not the heat furnace of a well tuned athlete. Vest is quite shear and comfortable, light fleece front lining but shear polyester in back. In hindsight I might have chosen Marmots fuller insulated vest but, total clothing package is an issue. Bottom line, it keeps the wind off my back.
Older models of the DriClime Vest had a fabric panel across the entire back, allowing for high breathability, especially when running or schlepping a load. This feature, plus the wind shedding front, made this an absolutely versatile piece of weather gear that went with me everywhere. For some unknown reason, the back panel is now nylon and simply does NOT perform anywhere close to the older models. I'm leaving it at home. Big mistake Marmot.
I have had this vest for about three weeks now. I have yet to take it on the trail so for now I have just worn it to work and while on the job in cool conditions. It does an awesome job keeping me warm at 4am and I am duly impressed with the way the vest stays dry. During a walk across campus one day it began to rain pretty hard. The vest repelled the water with no worries. That said, a couple members of the opposite sex commented on how nice it looked and how bright it the lava color was.
Great vest, but it was a windbreaker-type fabric. I wanted more of a softshell vest. It was very thin for great mobility, but shiny and papery. I opted to go up a price level for a softshell version.
