The Marmot Sharp Point Jacket is a sharp looking softshell that's perfect solo for mild weather protection or layered for gnarly weather. Wear this windproof, water resistant, breathable jacket for fall, winter and spring aerobic activities like hiking, climbing, skinning and mountaineering. The Sharp Point's stretch woven Gore WindStopper shell is laminated to fleece for incredible comfort and warmth. The fitted cut of the Sharp Point makes it ideal for layering under a hardshell when the blizzard of the century arrives. Reinforced shoulders and elbows extend the durability and lifetime of the Sharp Point. Pit zips and plenty of pockets round out the technical features of the sweet color blocked softshell.
I have 3 other softshell jackets, but none can beat this one. The Sharp Point jacket is warmer than Mountain Hardwear's Synchro jacket, and it fits better too. I really do recommend this jacket. It's one of the best in it's price range.
I purchased the Sharp Point a few months ago because my old softshell was way too snug for comfort. I had the Alchemy from Mountain Hardwear, which is a good jacket but too snug to layer a sweatshirt underneath. I chose the Sharp Point over The North Face Free Climb jacket because the Free Climb was to cheaply made. One of the best choices I have made. The Sharp Point is wider and a little longer than the Alchemy which lets me layer a fleece underneath. The jacket sheds water just as well as any other softshell and wind does not exist while wearing this jacket. The WindStopper fabric is thick, tough, and more windproof than lightweight Powershield (I am not exaggerating. Look it up). Overall, it is from Marmot so you have to expect quality and that is what you get.
I have worn this jacket all winter in a wide variety of outdoor activities, both as a midlayer in severe conditions and an outer layer in mild to moderate conditions. It has every feature that it needs and none that it does not. It is perfectly windproof and highly water resistant. Maybe the best feature of this jacket is its exceptional fit. The fit is efficient, but not tight. Freedom of movement and comfort are outstanding. Very highly recommended.
Since most people deservedly give this jacket rave reviews, I'd like to point out a few shortcomings that are often overlooked. First, this soft shell is very, very slow to dry. Slower than Schoeller and much slower than Patagonia's double weave. Second, the pockets are low for casual use and therefore interfere with pack straps. Attributes include the most durable fabric I've ever seen for a soft shell and great water repellency. Also, the pit zips are really nice.
This is an awesome jacket. For me, I had to pick a size smaller than the other companies for it to fit me. I usually pick medium, but medium was too big for me. Really nice jacket but a Napoleon pocket would have been nice.
Yep, I like this jacket a lot. I wear it a most of the time, outside and in (when the aircon is set too low!). It is very comfortable and has great pockets and draw cords - very easy to use. It may not be as warm as I expected, but that is not really a problem for me. I love it.
This Sharp Point jacket is awesome for just about anything you can do. I just got it, and it has already become my go-to jacket. Rain/snow mix, no problem. Chilly but sunny, breathes well and isn't too warm. On top of that, it is completely waterproof - at this point anyway. I was at the car wash, and my buddy decided it would be funny to spray me with the high-pressure rinse; the water beaded up and rolled right off, leaving the fabric dry to the touch even though the rest of me was soaked.
Excellent overall jacket. You can use it as a layer under a hardshell in extreme conditions, however it works well in most conditions on its own. I use it for snowshoeing, trail running, and I did a through-hike of the Presidentials in NH with it last week (I didn't need my hardshell). It cuts the wind, is water resistant, and very durable. Highly recommended!
I would not recommend this jacket in conditions below -10 Celsius, especially if there is wind. For all other conditions it is brilliant. Water and wind proof. Very comfortable.
The Marmot Sharp Point jacket is an excellent jacket for almost all situations. The material is great, feels extremely durable. I'm very happy with it, and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it too! I've only been able to wear it around town, no outdoors stuff yet. But it's been great in rain, snow, subway, city streets...and it's warmer than you think. The cut is also perfect - roomy enough to move, snug enough to keep you warm and comfortable.
The price is a little high, obviously, but then again, you're paying for quality, fit, and performance. If you got the funds, it's a good investment. I am certain that it will perform even better once I get a chance to leave the city!
For me, this is a do-it-all softshell. The fit is perfect, layers nicely under technical shells (Marmot, Oakley) and work jackets (Carhartt). It's clean and simple, warm, definitely stops cold, biting wind, breathable enough to be comfortable across a wide range of activity, and not too bulky. The materials are strong, durable and abrasion resistant. Won't pill or be a lint magnet like many fleeces. Very well made. And, while I'm not a fashion-ista, it looks nice enough to receive compliments :) Downside? It 'aint cheap.
In the midwest, I wear this more than any of my numerous other jackets. Excellent weather protection, looks good on me. Some complaints though. Not stretchy enough to move exactly with the body. Also, fit is "standard" as marmot describes, but this gives a little too much of the burly fabric when layering it under a hard shell.
I ride (bike) to work everyday in this jacket. Lately it's been below 10 degrees, and I am never cold. It's totally windproof and cleans easily. I love it. It's worth the money bc it lasts. I stay dry too. I wish it had a hood though.
This is a great jacket. I would recomend it highly. It is very warm. I wore it to a football game where it was 15F and really windy, and it wasn't cold. It is also pretty breathable and isn't to hot to wear indoors.
I've owned this jacket for almost two years now and have worn it in everything from overcast, mild conditions to 10F and dumping snow. This coat is flawless. If you don't buy it on sale, yes it's spendy but worth every penny. A must have. It does everything Marmot says it will.
I was down in New Zealand and the guy at the gear shop made me try this jacket on. I was hooked. Great movement and range of motion. Totally windproof so those brisk fall days on a cycling ride and the soon to come bombs down the slopes won't be hindered by that bone chilling wind. Although it is not a primary waterproof jacket, I decided to test its ability and took it out during some of the hurricane rains it held its own. Great work by Marmot. Warm, windproof, waterproof, has done well in hikes and cycle rides. Waiting for the winter for its true test.
This jacket is great. The wind stops right at the shell, never touching you. At the same time, the water sheds off the Gore like its off of a duck's back. It can be layered or worn as a stand-alone. The only drawback is that there is no hood. I would recommend this jacket to anyone who wants serious protection with a good look.
I gave this jacket to my father for a cross country skiing trip he was taking. Not only did he love it in all the crazy spring weatherfrom snowy cold to sunny 40'sbut everyone complimented him on it. Definitely worth the bucks!
I purchased the Marmot Sharp Point jacket as a Christmas gift for my youngest son. I have three sons, and now they all own a Marmot Sharp Point. The combination of materials and construction make the Marmot Sharp Point ideal for skiing or snowboarding. They tell me the jacket keeps them warm and dry when used with the proper layers. They like the features like the pit zippers, so they can control their body temperature effectively. The jacket is rugged and stylish. All three give it a best rating and highly recommend it.
Comfortable, stylish, and functional. Kept me dry and warm in a windy, cold rain in Chicago. The slim design and light weight combine for a truly unique jacket.
Marmot has really put out a great softshell. I mainly use the Sharp Point for skiing and it has been great. I have worn this jacket in rain and strong wind and I could not feel either. I am a bit surprised at how well the Sharp Point performs in rain because it is a softshell. This jacket also layers very nicely under other jackets. The only thing I don't like about the jacket is that it is not super warm by itself, but that is what layering is for. This jacket is definitely worth the high price.
My goal in getting this jacket was something to be between a rain shell and my heavy winter coat (pea coat) or technical snowboard shell. This fit the bill wonderfully. Great jacket for 30 to 55F. Its casual enough to use everywhere, technical enough to keep you warm and dry. The fit is loose enough to allow easy layering. Pit vents help keep you cool. Its windproof and very water-resistant, so great in inclement weather. Pricey but worth it. I use it nearly every day.
I tested the Sharp Point during spring in Philadelphia, PA and it is certainly windproof. I got the jacket for use in a professional environment (a ski jacket or technical winter jacket just didnt scream executive), and Im happy to say it works quite well in that regard. I've had it for a month and so far it's quite durable. Be warned that family members may admire your jacket so much theyll want to continually borrow it. You might have to buy them a Sharp Point as well.
I bought this jacket on a whim because I lost my soft shell a couple weeks before planning to hike Mt. Whitney. At first I thought the jacket was a little hardcore as I live in OC, California, but while hiking Whitney I couldn't have been more pleased. The jacket is amazing. At the summit it was well below freezing with highly elevated winds and it kept me toasty warm (FYI: I had a Patagonia SW Capilene long sleeve underneath). In the past Ive wanted to buy from Marmot but their sleeve lengths were always too short. This year though they must have done some changes to their shaping because it fits very well. My only complaint (that is not really a complaint) is that it is not as snug in the chest as I would like. In Marmot's defense though, I'm a tall, skinny guy with a 39" chest and I normally wear european-fit clothing, so Im just used to a tight feel. If you want a little snugger jacket, try the Marmot but also check out the Mountain Hardware Alchemy. I believe its designed more for climbing and I've heard nothing but rave reviews from all my buddies. Nonetheless, I haven't been able to wear the Marmot since then as it has been nearly 100° in SoCal everyday, but the few hours that I really needed it I couldn't have been more pleased. A++ to the Sharp Point.
Jacket is a great fit, looks nice, and of great quality. Haven't used it on super cold days, but it seems like it will be awesome (especially with a shell). Very thin and not bulky as all. Would strongly recommend
The Sharp Point jacket lives up to its name - it's good looking and performs well as a shell or a piece of light raingear; excellent construction with quality zippers and technical fabric make this one a "keeper".
The first time I wore it I had it on in a restaurant and managed to spill the cheese dip I was eating all over my new jacket. Ack! Not only is the Sharp Point impervious to wind and water resistant, but spills just wash right off and it still looks brand-new. Hey, what can I say? Very goovy jacket and the chicks dig it.
