Lowe Alpine TFX Summit 65+15 Pack - 4000cu in

When you're carrying a rope, sleeping bag, and gear for a mountaineering or backpacking trip, you want your pack to fit well. Thanks to a back and waist-belt system that adjusts and moves with you, the Lowe Alpine TFX Summit 65 Pack feels comfortable every step of the way. The TFX Summit Pack's hipbelt and internal frame both rotate and flex with the motion of your hips and spine, without compromising stability. Compartments with zip-out dividers give you organizing options, while the lid detaches and converts into a beltpack for shorter hikes out of base camp. Lowe Alpine gave this expedition pack an extendable lid so you can pack an extra 900 cubic inches of clothes or food.

Bottom Line: Lowe Alpine's TFX Summit 65 Pack feels like an extension of your body rather than an awkward, unwieldy pack.

Only in the sense that you might encounter some mixed/ice climbing while mountaineering. For simply single-day ice climbing (for example, an ice fall) this is such a large pack, it would pull you right off the wall. Instead of a 65L pack, you might want to look in the 25-40L range. Osprey Packs is releasing the Mutant 38 pack this fall in the U.S. (not available yet on backcountry.com, try moosejaw.com) that I plan to pick up for ice climbing. Osprey's Variant 28 & 37 packs are also good options, but I am a die-hard Osprey Packs fan and, thus, bias. Ummm, some other solid contenders include The North Face's Spire 32 or Prophet 35, Black Diamond's Sphynx, and Mammut's Ice 45. Hope this helps and best of luck out there!

This pack is fantastic. I have had osprey, north face,
mountain hardware packs before. This pack beats them all. The adjustable torso system is great. This pack is well padded in waist and shoulders and is way more comfortable than the others. I really dont understand why this pack is not more popular. By far the best pack I have owned.

I have hauled plenty of load's and this pack does it all.the TFX system is superb it really makes a difference to have a pack that can hold the load you need but also be comfortable 10-15 miles a day . I was very happy waking up the next day ready to get going again the detachable top worked great as fanny pack that held my hydration bladder, snacks and first aid kit i did a lot of research before i made this purchase and came to this conclusion you get what you pay for with anything you by i am so very pleased with my purchase thank you LOWE ALPINE
