La Sportiva Thunder II GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

The La Sportiva Men’s Thunder II GTX Hiking Boot comes standard with an ultra-grippy Vibram outsole and waterproof breathable Gore-Tex lining. These leather boots take on the harshest trail conditions out there and just keep on going. La Sportiva includes a half-length steel shank for added support when you head out with a big, heavy pack. You’ll really appreciate it after 20 miles with 50 pounds on your back.

Bottom Line: Tough like a boot should be.

Moderate Hiking

By:
September 20, 2009

I've been using La Sportiva boots for (mostly) day hiking with a moderate pack for about six years. Unfortunately the models change over time (from Storm to Thunder to Thunder II), so there is always the worry that the next model may not be as good as the previous one. Luckily they all seem fit me rather well. I hike between 600 and 1500 miles a year (retired) and I haven't had a single blister in all the six years.
Obviously, boots are a very personal thing. La Sportiva makes the best fitting boots for MY feet. I buy a new pair about every 18 months. I have them resoled once, but after that they're pretty much shot.

5 days 4 nights 40 miles

I'm now 100% convinced these were the right boots for me! I was looking for a light weight boot that could handle a heavy pack for multiple days, and be versatile enough for an annual winter ascent (The one pair to kill 'em all). I chose La Sportiva because I the fit is the best, and this model was the right style for my average trip. On top of everything else, Backcountry.com offered an amazing deal, and these boots required no break in time. I only had slight calluses on the bottom of my feet, probably because it was hot out and I was wearing thick socks...changing to thinner ones would have helped my feet stay cooler and free from the rough stuff. I only rate these a 4, should be a 4.5 because of some slight delaminating of the rubber around the top of the shoe...purely cosmetic.
