La Sportiva Scorpion Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva made the Scorpion Climbing Shoe to give beginners the footwear to take on any type of rock and advanced climbers the comfort needed for long multi-pitch trad routes. A combination of leather and synthetic leather allows the upper to mold to your feet without stretching too much. La Sportiva's high-quality FriXion rubber lets you stick like glue to the smallest holds, and the Scorpion Climbing Shoe's high-wrap rubber rand provides extra grip inside cracks.

Bottom Line: Ready for anything the rock throws your way.

Scorpian's Sting

By:
September 18, 2009

The shoes seem fine. I bought for my 12 year old son
as the price was reasonable. They look good and flashy!
Good shape for a wide foot. Now for the bad, the stitching on the pull-on tabs on the inside of the shoe is very rough and cheese graters both sides of the Achilles. Still considering sending them lback as I understand there is
a no questions asked policy 100% satisfaction.
This is a somewhat minor problem but no easy fix. unless you rip out the stitching and re sew or go without tab/clip in loops.

Boulder Away

Awesome shoe, took about 2 hours to break in, I recommend getting a full size small (I wear a street 11, bought a 10). Great feel on the wall. Good toe-in area as well.

Personally, I would try them on before buying them. I know sometimes that hard to do. But I think it's really important to do with performance footwear (ski/snowboard boots, hiking boots, climbing shoes, biking shoes, etc). For instance I tried these before buying. My street shoe size is 41. I got these in a 40.5 (also tried them in 39, 39.5, 40) They are TIGHT. But I got them tight hoping they will stretch a little since leather climbing shoes tend to stretch. I take that back, I'm PRAYING they will stretch.

Can't go wrong with these

By:
August 26, 2009

Great beginner shoe! i usually wear a size 11 in street shoe and i bought these in a 10.5. the first climb was painful, but after 3-4 climbs, the shoes started to feel alright. I'm curious to see how these compare to the Mantis (velcro version) because its annoying to have to tie them up when your fingers are dead.

I dig 'em

By:
October 10, 2008

I just started climbing recently so I don't know alot, but I ended up buying these shoes for my first pair of climbing shoes. I wear a 9.5-10 street shoe and I bought these shoes in a 42 Euro/9 US. At first they killed my feet and made me want to knaw off my feet at the ankles, but I was told this is normal for climbing shoes. Sure enough, after only a few sessions on an indoor wall they started to feel much better. Thus far they continue to get more comfortable everytime I put them on. I think I could have even gone another size or two lower if I were really hardcore, but comfort and enjoyment is more important at this point. They grip really well for working on more technical footwork or for scrambling up the wall in any which way (I do more of the latter). All in all, I give the Scorpions two thumbs up!

Great fit for me

By:
July 3, 2009

The Scorpions may be on the low end of the price scale, but they are at least moderate on the performance scale. Very nice design, and well-made face climbing shoe - not the best toe profile for small cracks, but I don't think this model was intended for that. I'm a men's US 11 street, and went with the size 44 for a comfortable fit (44.5 was definitely too big). I dont' think a 43.5 would have been overly painful after a week or two of break-in period. Another bonus, the rubber on these (Frixion RS) was tested as the second stickiest overall, from a test of 8 popular climbing shoe rubbers. I have a somewhat narrow, low-volume foot, and I'm happy with the fit. I'm sure they would fit a "standard" D-width foot just as well.

Indoor shoe

By:

I like this show alot for comfort and fitting (I wear a 9 and the 9 fits excellent. My only problem is they are not as sticky in the gym. I regularly climb on a Nicros ARTWall in the gym and the stickiness is not there. On actual rock (in West Virginia) they are great!

Love 'Em

By:
April 1, 2009

I initially bought three pairs of climbing shoes so that I could choose the one's that fit/felt best. Though these were by far the cheapest pair I ordered, my gear expert friend and I agree they're the best. Now that I've climbed in them several times, I love them even more! They're perfect for smearing and have a great pointed toe for digging into those tiny holds.

SOOOO Comfy

By:
October 6, 2008

My first pair of climbing shoes and they are awesome! The tongue is fat padded and makes the transition into cramming toes in climbing shoes a little easier to take. I also own a pair of 5.10's that may be above my skill level but seem to smear with a completely unnatural part of my foot. Thus I always grab the Scorps because I know exactly what I can stick to. I spend almost all my time in the gym right now working an equal amount of time bouldering and little sport routes. I wear 11.5's in regular shoes and these are 44.5 euro. Not too much of a size drop but I am able to spend the entire gym session with them on. Has made me a La Sportiva loyalist.

These are comfy and sticky for the price. Not THE BEST shoe but a great deal. Took just a few climbs to break em in. Great first shoe or backup pair.

Beginner Climbing/Bouldering

By:
December 9, 2008

After using gym shoes for a few weeks, I decided that this was a sport that I wanted to do on a regular basis. The first thing in store was to get my own shoes. After some research, I decided to get these & I couldn't be more pleased. The first few days were a little bit uncomfortable as expected but now I can't take them off. They mold to your feet & allow you to do pretty much anything. I've smeared in them a lot & the rubber looks like it's still new. Great first shoe!!

My First Shoes

By:

These shoes started out very uncomfortable but after only a short while they have become very comfortable. Nice padding around the toe. These shoes look and feel great. I highly recommend them.

Great starter-outer!

By:
February 17, 2009

I love my Scorpions! First shoes I bought, so i was looking for comfort with performance. They feel GREAT, broke in fast, and have been solid for the five months I've had them. I will say though, that already I feel ready for more aggressive shoes. They aren't too aggressive, which frustrates me when I'm working on those tiny cracks on the indoor problems. Also the rubber: I haven't tried any higher end shoes, but the ones I've handled feel a lot stickier.
Bottom line: if you are a new climber: GET THESE BAD BOYS! If you are an experienced climber and like agressive style, look elsewhere.

I'm sticking to La Sportiva for now on.

Great First Shoes!

By:
July 6, 2009

This is my first pair of climbing shoes and I love them! They took a couple of days to break in (I wear a women's size 7.5 and ended up getting a 6.5, which seemed a little small at first), but now, I feel at home in these shoes. They're great for bouldering and indoor climbing, I have yet to try them outdoors.
I definitely recommend these to anyone looking to buy their first pair for a great price and no compromise for quality.
